Historia
Although having Asperger syndrome (AS) can make romantic relations difficult, having a fulfilling relationship with an Asperger man is certainly not impossible. A woman in love with a man with AS may interpret his difficulties with communication and socialisation as a lack of interest in the relationship. He may vacillate between being gentle and caring to seeming cold and distant. She may find his behaviour hard to understand, resulting in feelings of loneliness, isolation and confusion.

Historia
From ADHD and dyslexia to autism, the number of diagnosis categories listed by the American Psychiatric Association has tripled in the last fifty years. With so many affected, it is time to revisit our perceptions of people with disabilities. Psychologist and educator Thomas Armstrong illuminates a new understanding of neuropsychological disorders. He argues that if they are a part of the natural diversity of the human brain, they cannot simply be defined as illnesses. Armstrong explores the evolutionary advantages, special skills, and other positive dimensions of these conditions.

Having recently befriended someone on the autism spectrum, I turned to this book in an effort to understand and connect with them more effectively. The comprehensive overview of 39 traits commonly associated with Asperger's Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders provided in the book was exceptionally enlightening. It offered a nuanced perspective, emphasizing that while these traits can pose challenges, they are also integral parts of the individual's personality and can be sources of strength. The clear and empathetic explanations of each trait helped me recognize and appreciate the unique ways my friend experiences the world. The practical suggestions for communication and interaction were particularly helpful, enabling me to foster a more meaningful and respectful friendship. This book has been a valuable tool in bridging the gap in understanding and has deepened my appreciation for the diverse ways in which people perceive and engage with their surroundings.
