Acerca de esta escucha

"The old truth that Calvin preached, that Augustine preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach to-day, or else be false to my conscience and my God. I cannot shape the truth; I know of no such thing as paring off the rough edges of a doctrine. John Knox's gospel is my gospel. That which thundered through Scotland must thunder through England again." (C. H. Spurgeon)

A Defense of Calvinism is a classic text by Charles H. Spurgeon. This rendition is beautifully narrated by Bryan Nyman.

This is a a short introduction and defense of the Doctrines of Grace often called "Calvinism". While repopularized by Reformer John Calvin in the 1600s and 1200 years before by Augustine of Hippo, Charles Spurgeon; "The Prince of Preachers", will argue rightly they are the correct, though unpopular, understanding of the Bible.

Starting in the very beginning, man has always recoiled at the idea God is God and free to exercise His authority over us. We recoil so heavily at the thought that Western Christianity has reconstructed God's love so that if God is to exercise greater authority in saving us than our own will, then He can't truly be capable of loving us, nor we of Him, and everything else is meaningless.

Yet, we deceive ourselves and place a barrier between ourselves and God when we dictate the terms of our relationship. Has not the Creator freedom to Create for His good pleasure? Has not the Potter the liberty to shape the clay to His own liking without the rebuke of the clay?

Spurgeon lays out basic defenses from Scripture of what Calvinism is and is not, rooting it in Scripture. While you're not going to find an exhaustive defense of every doctrine, this is a good introduction and sufficient rebuttal to the myriads of detractors who are willing to spend a couple hours listening to a well-voiced and well-argued presentation.

Short introduction

the content is great despite the poor reading ability of the reader - rather flat and monotone.

great sermon

An excellent sermon by Spurgeon however the narrator struggled with his reading of it. Still thought it was quite good.

Excellent Sermon

Spurgeon’s sermon is direct and filled with the Bible as the foundation for truth. Should reaffirm your trust in the Scriptures or make you question why you are resting on what you want to transform the Scriptures to mean, for your ‘itchy ears,’ instead of what God says. 100% worth a listen.

Great Short Listen for Truth

Interesting from the perspective of the person satisfactions, intellectual and emotional, that Spurgeon found in his “doctrine of grace.” However, readers will not find a well-reasoned defense, and Spurgeon is vague on why he does not consider himself a hyper-Calvinist, whatever that is.

Short

I am leaning towards being more of a Calvinist in my beliefs, and I was hoping Spurgeon would cite some Bible passages to support his beliefs, but I don’t honk he even mentioned one verse, and that is unfortunate because I was hoping this would be full of verses and not just his opinions an/or feelings.
