Thirteen-year-old Catherine Cabot Hall put ink to the first unblemished page of her diary on October 17, 1830, the day after her father returned from Boston with the diary tucked conspicuously under his arm. Catherine's mother had died of fever four years before, and now Catherine performed the duties of housewife and mother, living contentedly with her father and younger sister, Matty, on their New Hampshire farm. In spite of the daily hardships, Catherine had much to be thankful for, especially for Cassie, her dearest friend. But when Catherine received a disturbing note from a stranger, she wasn't sure what she should do or who she should tell. Only her diary knew the anguish in her heart. You’re probably wondering why I gave this book five stars if I think it’s good but… Well it wasn’t the best book ever and it should have been more realistic since it was more realistic. But it was a sweet story and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. Also I’M NOT DAN I’m Laura and I do Classical conversations challenge B in Garden City Kansas. HOME SCHOOL ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was extremely sad, but a delightful read! I loved the steady pace of the narrator of gathering of days!!!

It is a great book and I enjoyed listening to it. I love it so.

The story ended up being better than I thought it was going to be. I do believe that listening to this book versus reading it helped. The narrator did an excellent job and fit the part well. There is no real plot to this story, which, I guess, is okay considering it is a girl's journal, but then when you realize that the story isn't real....well then a little more plot could have been invented.
With that said...it is a believable story of a girl who shares her ups and downs of life in the 1800's. I do believe that there are some values set forth about diligence of work and obedience.

Listening is better than reading in this case..

the story was slow but it tugged my intention fast! the plot was all over and twist were amazing! will recommend!

My kids (ages 4, 7, 10, and 12) enjoyed listening to this one. It is fairly slow moving, but had good morals and lessons.
