Acerca de esta escucha

* Compelling adventure with an environmental focus

* An informative natural and cultural history of one of our last wild coastlines

* Author is a pioneer in "packrafting," an emerging trend in backcountry travel

In June 2007, Erin McKittrick and her husband, Hig, embarked on a 4,000-mile expedition from Seattle to the Aleutian Islands, traveling solely by human power. This is the story of their unprecedented trek along the northwestern edge of the Pacific Ocean-a year-long journey through some of the most rugged terrain in the world - and their encounters with rain, wind, blizzards, bears, and their own emotional and spiritual demons.

Erin and Hig set out from Seattle with a desire to raise awareness of natural resource and conservation issues along their route: Clear-cut logging of rainforests; declining wild salmon populations; extraction of mineral resources; and effects of global climate change. By taking each mile step by step, they were able to intimately explore the coastal regions of Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska, see the wilderness in its larger context, and provide a unique on-the-ground perspective. An entertaining and, at times, thrilling adventure, theirs is a journey of discovery and of insights about the tiny communities that dot this wild coast, as well as the individuals there whom they meet and inspire.

Not spell binding but real. Real interesting. Real nature. Real experiences. Real conundrums.

There certainly was the potential for greater depth of describing the experience as well as more philosophical discussion. If you can imagine the landscape and the experience, you will enjoy. If you can't, there may not be enough description to paint the picture for you.

I could, and I enjoyed the story.

A nice story.

What did you love best about A Long Trek Home?

From Seattle to furthest Unimak Island, they traveled through so called wilderness, but what they saw was nothing but. Even so, you can still appreciate all the beauty & wonder.

No coast if too far

Well paced and written
Environmental ethos soft peddled but clearly stated
Great for those who want to drop out and wander vicariously without wearing through 4 dry suits and confronting beers

Well written- sweet and enthralling

I enjoyed listening to this book. I wish parts of had more detail. It seemed to skip right over lots of things. Very little mention of how grueling it must have been, more like a walk in the park. But a good story.

Kept me interested

During this pandemic year where being out in nature has kept me sane, I loved hearing this story of two people stretching themselves and discovering new things

Hearing about adventure

This book is by far one of the most boring and uneventful books I have ever listened to. Even the narration is boring but probably not her fault due to the lack of story telling by author. You never feel connected to the characters in the story. You never feel or experience what the trip would have been like for them in real time! Flat, boring and disconnected story. Don't waste your money! If you are looking for the same feel you get from "Wild" or "A Walk In The Woods" this is NOT it!

Boringgggggg
