Acerca de esta escucha

When Megan Sawyer gives up her big-city law career to care for her grandmother and run the family's organic farm and cafe, she expects to find tranquility in her scenic hometown of Winsome, PA. Instead, her goat goes missing, rain muddies her fields, the town denies her business permits, and her family's Colonial-era farm sucks up the remains of her savings. Just when she thinks she's reached the bottom of the rain barrel, Megan and the town's hunky veterinarian discover the local zoning commissioner's battered body in her barn. Now Megan is thrust into the middle of a murder investigation - and she's the chief suspect. Can Megan dig through small-town secrets, local politics, and old grievances to find a killer before that killer strikes again?

The halting manner in which the performer read the story was a bit off-putting. The story itself was fun.

Would have preferred a better reader.

A body was found in the barn. Attorney, turned organic gardner and grandmother monitor, tried to keep her distance from the investigation, but it continued to be back in her lap. The town is introduced, character by character. It's developed well, but seems a little slow to me.

Narrator: Her voice seems perfectly age appropriate, a mature voice for a woman. Many characters have many voices and she handles them amazingly well. My only beef is with Denver, the veterinarian and her love interest. He's Scottish and his voice sounds like an 80 year old, hardly romantic.

I am undecided about whether or not I will continue this series.

Nice Cozy Mystery

The story had interesting characters & dynamics. True to life farm living in small town! Stretch on the historical but then that is what caused the caper!

When big city attorney, Meghan Sawyer moves to her grandma (Bibi's) farm in rural Pennsylvania to take up organic farming and open a small cafe, the last thing she expected was red tape from the local historical society and zoning commission. With road blocks at nearly every turn, she planted her crops and took care of Bibi, her 80-something grandmother, and readied her small cafe and store in town to open to the public. With a pouring rain and an escaped goat, Meg pulls on her boots and is horrified to find a dead man in her barn . . . and he's the zoning commissioner, no less. With no shortage of suspects (and Meg being number one), the local police begin the investigation, and it becomes clear that there are a lot of secrets in the small town, going back a LONG time. Not only that, some of the secrets are in Meghan's own family . . . As she tries to convince Bibi to tell her the history of the farm, her mother and what she knows, Meghan gets a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. The local vet (a Scottish man) and Meg become fast friends . . . and they both have some painful experiences to overcome. But it is a healing experience for them both. This is a great first book in a series, that I think I will absolutely LOVE. With historical roots going back to revolutionary times, family ties and mysteries being unraveled, and good sleuthing, what's not to like? I never figured out who the culprits were . . . GREAT BOOK!

This was a very well written book that kept me engaged all day. The characters were well rounded and believable. The plot was suspenseful with a satisfying end. I enjoyed the budding romance between Megan and Denver. What I liked most was that it didn't over shadow the mystery. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Well Written and Entertaning

I wasn't sure if I would like it but I decided to give it a go. It's a great story and this particular book tickled my genealogy side. I love the budding romance, Bebe's nature and the fact that it takes place in such a historical place.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book
