Burr may be the key to understanding that whole period. Also had some very interesting insights on the role of land speculators - they were as sleazy as their current descendants (real estate speculators)A New Perspective!!!

The Author has done a good job dredging up correspondence, memoirs and official documents relevant to the life of Burr. Nonetheless, at the end of the book, Burr continues to be a somewhat shadowy and controversial figure.An informative about the great person

He could be egocentric, obstinate and overly ambitious. But what ultimately this thoughtful biography proves is the maxim so well presented in the final scene of the now classic .when the Senator states, "This is the West, sir. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend".the essence of whom may never be known.
