Liberty minded individuals and those who believe in the Constitution will find this near future dystopian novel to be right up their alley. Those who are looking to be more informed about the potential threats to America's financial stability will learn what to watch for and how to prepare themselves for an economic collapse.
America is on the cusp of financial annihilation. Matt and Karen Bair face the challenges of Main Street during a full scale financial meltdown. Government borrowing and monetary creation have reached their limits. When funds are no longer available for government programs, widespread civil unrest erupts across the country. Matt and Karen are forced to move to a more remote location and their level of preparedness is revealed as being much less adequate than they believed prior to the crisis.
Meanwhile, Paul Randall, a third party presidential candidate arises to push back against the welfare and warfare spending that have bankrupted our country. While he has gained expansive acceptance, the fight has just begun. Paul Randall proposes a plan to mitigate the coming hyper-inflationary collapse which is a mathematical certainty. His plan is known as The American Exit Strategy.
American Exit Strategy uses survival fiction to take an in-depth look at the real life politics and economics behind the issues that are likely to trigger a currency collapse or financial meltdown in the near future.
American Exit Strategy is a work of fiction…until it becomes history.

What did you like best about American Exit Strategy? What did you like least?
The book took enough from politics and government to make you think and ask questions. What other book might you compare American Exit Strategy to and why?
It is similar to James Wesley Rawle's novels. Economic collapse with political and religious themes. What Goodwin brings forward in this book is sociological perspective on the welfare system.Have you listened to any of Kevin Pierce’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Kevin Pierce's performance is solid and enjoyable. He is one of my favorite narrators.Solid Dystopian listen

Is there anything you would change about this book?
The beginning of the story is too religious and preachy. I personally prefer not to feel like I am in church while listening to audio books. The story line has a good direction but much of it sounds "written" instead of how people normally talk, especially in emergencies. I rarely find someone using complete perfect sentences without any abbreviations when in a stressful situation. That keeps this book from sounding real.
Any additional comments?
I have over 60 audio books. The most successful books I have listened to get you immersed in them by sounding natural, and move along with enough detail but not so much you feel like your listening to an instruction manual. This book feels much more like an instruction manual.Fast Forward the first hour

It's hard to review this book without including my opinion of the other two books in the series.I did enjoy the first book. The collapse is believable, the character interesting and the survival aspect sensible. It's hard to recommend this book because of the follow ups.
At the end of the first book I was looking forward to the second and bought the 3rd at the same time.
It falls apart quickly. The patriotic and Christian values present, but not over bearing in the first book, quickly become annoying and hypocritical in the next two.
The big bad goverment that caused the collapse turns into cartoon level bad guys, that simply could not stay in power if the events that are supposed to be happening, were to happen. Their enforcers are incompetent unless the story need them to be better to drive a plot line.
The racial undertones did not go unnoticed by me. Black and Mexican gangs are mentioned, and well as a couple of the bad guys having names like Juan and Ortiz. There is never a mention of the "good guys" racial make up, which makes the other mentions stand out.
There are female characters in the book and they do get into the fight, when they are not cooking and fretting over what the men are up. When they do manage to do more than cook and clean, its looked down upon by most of male characters in the book.
As much as I enjoyed the first book, I would say pass.

Very good job with the narration.Good start...the rest not so much

Some of the characters were interesting as well as the story lines, but again I would have preferred more of the “how to survive”.
Not sure if I want to spend an extra credit on the sequel.
The narrator was great. Good choice 😎
A bit too much bible thumping for fiction novel
