Acerca de esta escucha

It is 1936 and Kate Merritt works hard to keep her family together. Her father has slipped into alcoholism, her mother is trying to come to grips with their dire financial situation, and her sisters seem to remain blissfully oblivious to all of it. Kate could never have imagined that a dirty, abandoned little girl named Lorena Birdsong would be just what her family needs. In this richly textured audio book, award-winning author Ann H. Gabhart reveals the power of true love, the freedom of forgiveness, and the strength to persevere through troubled times, all against the backdrop of a sultry Kentucky summer.

Wonderful writing, lovable character s, and very inspiring! I love how their faith was so strong in very difficult times.

Wonderful

It started off kind of slow and dark and I was not sure I was going to enjoy it but after it hit about the seventh or eighth chapter I got into it, and it was really a very good story and very well done, and it carried through and I wasn’t confusedbecause it kept bouncing back-and-forth between the current in the past but I really enjoy

Beautiful angel story

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Put the word "mash" on the author's banned word list.. Another author, whose books I thoroughly enjoy, overuses the phrase "tucked into dinner". And he only uses it a few times per book. This author found ways to use 'mash' in every chaper, her favorite being, "mashed her lips together." After her third use of this word/phrase, it was like a fingernail scratching on a chalkboard. On a more serious note, has anyone noticed that her male characters are either tyrants or weaklings? I found her use of flashbacks slowed down the story. I became impatient with their length. Perhaps I would have found them more interesting if I knew nothing about World War 1.

Any additional comments?

I did not listen to this book expecting a masterpiece. The story sounded sweet. I actually liked the unrelenting nastiness of the two grandfathers, but they should have been balanced by at least one strong and compassionate male character. This book was disappointing.
