Acerca de esta escucha

After more than three decades of teaching English in Chicago schools, Robert Jones is retiring. He begins doing a food delivery job in which he enjoys the change as he is working alone most of the day. While doing that job, however, he also enjoys occasionally encountering people from many different walks of life. One evening, when he has an undeliverable food package since a customer can’t be found, he chooses not to eat it or dispose of it. Instead, he stops at an underpass in Chicago’s Little Village where he has previously seen homeless people gathered, and he offers the food delivery to them. This is when he meets several people including a transient lady named Berta. This is when his adventures begin. Though Berta is allegedly a lady of the evening with an admitted drug addiction, Robert takes a great liking to her, and their unlikely friendship develops. They are much the same in some ways and interestingly different in many others. Both of them need more civil companionship than they have previously had in their lives, and they end up spending much time together. Robert’s improbable attraction to her is admirable as well as understandable since he wants companionship. Likewise, a friendship with Robert is advantageous for Berta. When Robert tells his niece Jennifer that he has befriended a homeless woman, as well as some of her acquaintances on the street, Jennifer is captivated by his stories and suggests he write a novel about his adventures. In time, he does so. Consequently, “Writing in the Closet” is the story of Robert attempting to become an acclaimed author with his more-truth-than-fiction writings about improper characters he has met and befriended on the street. Contemporary adventure fiction.
