In a draw-down, Ben McCagg was as good as they come, having dispatched a fair share of dangerous owlhoots to Boot Hill in his day. But lately one slimy jasper was always getting the drop on him—the bottle. Liquored up, the ex-Texas Ranger was good for nothing, though McCagg swore he could lay the whiskey down if ever he got the hankering. And now sure seemed the time...or it was gonna be never!

A small group of Colorado homesteaders were strapping on their side arms to protect their holdings against a crooked lawyer and his band of hired gunsels. The hardcases were out to jump the nesters’ claims—by trickery is possible, and by cold-blooded killing is not—and he boozing, one-time lawman aimed to lend his gun to the settlers’ cause. But with a rain of bullets exploding throughout the territory, good intentions weren’t gonna be enough. It would take a clear eye and a steady hand to keep Ben McCagg alive!
