Abigail (Abi) Berg has a problem, and it’s her. Having recently turned sixteen, she’s not sure if she wants to stay Beachy Amish, an influence from some teenage English girls in a nearby town. They even have her wanting to wear ankle bracelets and makeup, a definite problem to her parents and her bishop.

Hoping to change Abi’s behavior, her parents send her to live with an aunt and uncle, Clara and Jonah Ellis, in Virginia, where it’s too remote to ride her bike to see English teenagers. Little do her parents know, Abi plans to be even more rebellious there.

At the end of her year with Clara and her family, a series of experiences and events affect Abi’s decision of whether to stay Beachy Amish or not. But until she returns home, even she isn’t sure what she’ll do.

A heartwarming novella about some of the trials we all face as teenagers, Amish at Heart: An Amish Easter Story, can be read in two or three sittings. For readers who’d like to revisit some of the characters from the author’s Clara Engelman series, they are also included.
