A 16-year-old female was arrested following a high-speed pursuit and crash in west Omaha on Friday, April 25. The incident began at approximately 9:57 p.m. when Nebraska State Patrol troopers observed a Mazda CX9 traveling over 100 miles per hour without headlights on Q Street near 156th Street, in a 45 mph zone. When troopers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, eventually turning into a neighborhood before returning to Q Street. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody after the pursuit ended in a crash.
On Wednesday, April 23, Nebraska State Patrol arrested an individual following a brief pursuit in the downtown Omaha area. At approximately 11:45 p.m., troopers observed a Dodge Dakota failing to maintain its lane on northbound Highway 75. When troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to yield and accelerated to approximately 95 miles per hour while driving recklessly for about two miles before slowing. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged with a fourth DUI offense.
University of Nebraska Omaha Police conducted a traffic stop near Aksarben Drive and Pine Street resulting in an arrest. The driver was taken into custody on an active warrant and additional traffic charges. No further details were provided.
In federal crime news, two Omaha men were sentenced for conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Calvin J. Carter, 22, and Malik M. Washington, 28, received their sentences on May 15. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Nebraska.
