Acerca de esta escucha
May 13, 2025, marks the 40th anniversary of the MOVE bombing—one of the most devastating and controversial actions ever taken by a U.S. city against its own citizens. MOVE, a Black liberation and back-to-nature organization, had been in frequent conflict with Philadelphia authorities since the 1970s, including a violent 1978 standoff that resulted in the death of a police officer and imprisonment of several MOVE members. Tensions culminated on May 13, 1985, when police dropped a bomb on MOVE’s West Philadelphia row house. The explosion and subsequent fire killed 11 people—including five children—and destroyed over 60 homes in the surrounding neighborhood. Four decades later, the bombing remains a symbol of racial injustice, police militarization, and governmental overreach. This anniversary invites solemn remembrance, critical reflection, and renewed commitment to justice, truth, and healing for the MOVE victims and the Osage Avenue community.
