Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Rodney Allen Rippy, Former Child Star, Actor
About Harvey's guest:
Today’s guest, Rodney Allen Rippy, is an actor, producer, TV personality, radio host, business man and humanitarian who first captured our hearts at the tender age of 3 years old. His over-the-top cuteness, infectious giggle and precocious personality made him an overnight sensation when he became the national spokesperson the popular fast food chain, Jack-in-the-Box.
He was one of the biggest child stars of the 70s and appeared on many iconic TV shows including “Laugh-In”, “The Six Million Dollar Man”, “Marcus Welby”, “Police Story”, and he had a co-starring role on the Saturday morning children’s show, “The Harlem Globetrotters Popcorn Machine”. And when he guest starred on “The Odd Couple”, HE was the one who first used the phrase, “You’re fired.”
He also appeared in classic movies like “Blazing Saddles” and “Oh God, Book 2”. As a child, our guest had his own talking doll made by MATTEL, AND he was also a recording artist. In fact, his 1973 hit song “Take Life a Little Easier”, recorded when he was only 5 years old, made him the youngest music artist in history to have a song on the Billboard Charts, a record which STILL has not been surpassed.
As an adult, our guest has appeared in movies like “Checking the Gate”, “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star”, “Flowers in the Snow” and “To the Top”, and on TV, you’ve seen him in “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose”, “Howie Goes to Hollywood” and “The Mis-adventures of Camp Elaine”. He’s also had a successful career in radio broadcasting.
And beyond his show business career, our guest has had his own marketing firm, he’s been a film production executive, and he has his own charitable foundation, the Rippy Foundation, which supports at-risk youth, seniors and veterans.
