A mystery with more questions the further you listen to the story. Every character has a secret, has a reason to be suspect yet the final five minutes had me sitting in the driveway to hear the conclusion. Never saw it coming!!

The best Anne Perry yet!

Loved the descriptions of the scenes & events. Ending caught me off guard. Well narrated

Surprise ending!

This started out a bit slow, with what seemed like too much detail about the social mores if the time, but after a while, I realized they were integral to the story and the characters, if only to showcase how stultifying and defining they were to the people’s lives—especially women. The mystery took a few twists and turns and ended satisfactily, with a … but I will leave it here so as not to gove anything away.

Davina Porter is awesome. Enough said.

Ultimately, a very good book

I as always enjoyed! the reading was excellent and the topics covered of honor, truth and unselfishness along with horrible secrets...makes this story a great read!

An elderly neighbor told me about Anne Perry because she & I shared our taste in books, so after she passed, I listened to my first book. I then went back to the beginning and started with both the Pitt & Monk series. Perry gives us such an education in Victorian life with interesting, well sketched characters who manage to be quite individual in each book. Charlotte and Thomas Pitt are glue that bring them all together here. The differences in class and etiquette of the day are present here, and I was kept guessing throughout. This is an excellent mystery novel and her books are always a better read because she has a marvelous grasp of language, and knows so many more adjectives than f——-g, a word in any of its forms, that is not in Ms Perry’s books. That makes me seem old but I really am getting tired of that word in fiction. Anyway, a good read when lies, misinformation, and bizarre executive declarations make you want to turn off the news and spend some time solving a mystery.

The twist at the end

Would you listen to Belgrave Square again? Why?

I have read/listened to the entire Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series via Audible. This last book performed by Davina Porter is the most complex and beautifully read. The characters come vividly alive under Davina Porters truly talented reading. The complexity of the plot still brought surprises at the end. As a note for readers going forward in the series the next nine books are MIA's and when you rejoin the series it will be read by Micheal Page. Mr. Page may be talented, but not nearly as effective as Ms. Porter in bringing the characters alive and does not do justice to Ms. Perry's skill in character creation.

The Best of Perry and Porter

Where does Belgrave Square rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Davina Porter is an amazing narrator. In fact, she's the primary reason I can't get enough of the Pitt series on audio. Ms. Porter easily moves from one dialect to another, skillfully changing her voice from one gender and social class to another. It's her voice that makes me feel like I'm right there in London at the end of the 1800s.

Any additional comments?

I'm only disappointed that this is the last Pitt series book on Audible until later in the series.

As important as the surprise ending are the hypocrisy and corruption in Victorian England. The wealthy (with few exceptions) look down on the middle and working classes and the poor. They refuse to look in the mirror at their own inequities, hurting others while they try to present themselves as models of Victorian values.

For us history buffs Miss Perrys books are a walk through tne past. On to the next book in the series.
