Acerca de esta escucha

Manda Scott's Boudica will tell the extraordinary, resounding story of Britain's first and greatest warrior queen, the woman who remains one of the great female icons.

AD 57: much of Britannia has been under Roman occupation for more than 10 years, and tribes pay costly tithes to the emperor in return for the right to continue living on their own lands.

On the sacred isle of Mona, the Boudica, or ‘Bringer of Victory’ as Breaca has long been hailed, now knows for certain that her lover, Caradoc - betrayed, captured and kept hostage in Rome - will never return to her. She leaves Mona, where she and her warriors have been waging a guerrilla war, and takes the fight to the Eceni heartland where it is needed most. With her are her children, Cunomar and Grainne, and her best friend from childhood, ex-lover and dreamer Airmid.

But the once proud Eceni are a downtrodden and defeated people who are forbidden on pain of death to worship their old gods. Across the sea in Hibernia, Breaca’s half-brother, Bán, is struggling to make peace with his fractured past. Soon, provoked by Roman aggression, he will sail to Britannia where he and Breaca will face down the might of Rome in the bloodiest revolt the Western world has ever known.

This book at the two previous were the best historical fiction books I have read or listened to. The characters were beautifully developed, the storyline was riveting, and the details were richly woven allowing one to imagine life in the period. The performance was outstanding. I am sad that there is not more to the series.

Richly woven

Narrators are great. Be good for them to change cadence a bit but all nice voices and no gross mouth noises. Story is Incredible!

So good

I just finished the fourth novel in the Boudicca series by Manda Scott. One more to go.
I LOVE historical fiction and the legend of The Boudicca and her right hand (female) druid, are very much a personal favorite.
Manda weaves a story woven in fantasy and historical fact.
I'm in tears. I knew what was going to happen to her daughters, and i know what happens next...
Yet still, I cried in gasps and sobs all the way through it.
Extraordinarily well written, with the authors notes and comments.
I cannot recommend a series more.
Outlander, be damned.

page turner, breathe taking and heart breaking

I love this series so much! It is well researched, and transports you back in time. I didn’t want it to end. Great narration too.

The story of Boudica and the "dreaming" continues. This history isn't filled with happy endings for our characters, yet the way Manda Scott presents it with a mix of the mystic is one telling I can not put aside for long. As soon as I awake in the morning, or my adulting is done, I am drawn back to the story, It's on my mind, and hunger for it. Now that I have finished book 3 and I am left in tears for The Boudica, her family, and people, I want to return with book 4 and see how it concludes.
I highly recommend it.

Stunning Portrayal of A Legendary Queen

This book slayed me. I've been reading this series over several years, and love them. The writing is beautiful, and the depth of the characters is powerful. The author has such a keen insight into human psychology that the characters are alive and believeable. I came upon the first audio book in my library by accident, and being a time and subject I'm interested in, I gave it a shot. Wow, was I surprised when I realized the author had experience with spiritual practice and ritual, as my own experience of spiritual practice made me able to recognize the authenticity with which she writes of it. Throughout the series, the "Dreaming" becomes more central, which I love, and this is definitely true of this book. Threads that have been dangling since the start are woven together in Dreaming the Hound, and there is a poignant resolve to one of the main tensions in the plot. This is not always an easy book, nor are any of this series, but it is deeply immersive, powerful, and moving. I just finished listening, and had to take a moment to dry my eyes, and gather myself before I could write a review. I may not be ready to read the last in the series yet because then I will have to let the world and the characters go, and I'm not sure I can do that yet! The whole series is narrated brilliantly, which is so much a part of the success of audio books.

Deeply Moving and Powerful

I enjoyed the story line of the progression of Boudica the warrior of Mona to the responsibility to her people. I also enjoyed the counter story of Bon/Valarius and his struggle to become the dreamer he was always meant to be.

Impressive series

I really liked this book. I am always drawn to historical pieces. The story keeps me hooked and it is really hard to “pause for now” I also really like the author’s note explaining the research and explanation that goes into each book.
