Acerca de esta escucha
The book Bridge in the Darkness, written by Artur Drazek, is a novel based on a true-life story. It’s inspired by the Russian invasion of Ukraine at end of February 2022.
As a kid, Alex had long accepted the fact that his life wouldn’t be like other kids his age. Born with a heart condition, he wouldn’t be able to do most things men his age would be able to do; he tried rebelling, but there was very little he could do to change his heart condition. Without another option, he began to slowly adapt to life with his condition; however, he would come to realize that he had been living in a bubble the minute war broke out in his country.
The war had been brewing for months since Ukraine sat right next door to Russia, but while tensions ran high, Alex was barely concerned as several things were going on in his personal life, and things would become more complicated when his confession to the woman he loved fails. Nursing a rejected heart, Alex finds himself having to deal with the changes in his life, changes he did not plan for, and there was no way he could prepare for them.
Leaving the security of his home, he and his family members travel to Lviv to stay with a family friend, while many others are left stranded and unsure of what their future would hold. When the call to serve in the army came, Alex finally decided it was time he served his country. Spending all his life on the sidelines, the time to finally step into the limelight had arrived, but then once again, he was faced with another reality.
When it became clear that staying in Ukraine wasn’t an option, a family member in Poland was willing to house them, an offer which they accepted almost right away, but on their way to Poland, Alex found himself holding to Daryna, the daughter of Sophia, the woman he had fallen in love with.
Thinking Sophia was on the train, Alex picked her up, but his action that day would result in many things, and in the end, Alex would have to spend months looking after the daughter of the woman he loved in the hope that one day he would be able to reunite both mother and child. During the process, he remembers his experience and how they had finally arrived in Warsaw with his family. There was a lot to be said, a lot of things to think about, and as the war waged on, all Alex could think of was how things slowly came to be and how they found themselves in their present situation.
