Do you love to cook over an open flame? Are you the one to host all of the 4th of July cookouts? Are you looking for new menu ideas for those outdoor kitchen events such as camping, RVing, or tailgating? Try wild game!

Wild game is my family's staple meat.

I get truly upset when strangers try to tell me that wild game is dirty and it's bad for me to eat. I understand that they mean well, but it is absurd to the highest degree.

Folks have been eating wild game for as long as we have been around. For most of that time, in fact, it wasn't 'wild game' – it was just food! Industrial and factory farming as we know it has only been around for a short period of time when you consider the timeline of all of humanity.

Wild game is healthier for you.

I want you to pause for a moment, though, and think about how most wild game lives. In nature, in the woods, eating what is given to them from the earth. They aren't stuffed with hormones or antibiotics so you can imahgine it doesn't get any more organic than this.

I've been cooking outdoors pretty much my whole life.

It was in my parents' kitchen that I learned all about how to plan a meal, how to cook meat to the proper temperature, and what cuts of meat tasted like what. In the summers, we would move our cooking outside – not just because we loved spending time outside as a family, but because if we cooked outside, we wouldn't heat up the house.

I was on the grill flipping steaks by 14, and for Christmas one year, my father actually bought me a smoker. It wasn't my only gift, but I was truly excited about being able to use it by that time.

Any meat tastes better when it's grilled Properly!

★My Favorite Wild Boar BBQ Sauce★

1 cup quality ketchup

2 tablespoons dark brown sugar

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

2 teaspoons tabasco, or your favorite vinegar-based hot sauce

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

½ teaspoon ancho chili powder

¼ teaspoon ground oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

Steps

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Simmer for 5-10 minutes until warmed throughout, and the flavors have married together. Serve immediately, or seal in an airtight container in the fridge until you're ready to use.
