Newly widowed and stuck in a middle-aged funk, Poppy has been running on cookies, infomercials, and one-sided chats with her cat for months. Using the dreaded homecoming as an excuse to visit her eccentric Aunt Ginny, Poppy vows to leave Cape May with pride and Spanx intact. Too bad Barbie is still the queen of mean at the reunion. And worse, that her dead body is lying right in front of Poppy's old locker. Singled out as the killer, it's up to Poppy to confront her past and clear her name.

But between protecting her aunt from disaster and tackling a gluten-free diet, can Poppy crack the case before she's voted "Most Likely to Die" by the murderer?

Love the narrator, one of my favorites! The story was funny, and had a good flow to it.

The story line was interesting enough, if a little improbable. But it had me laughing out loud all the time. Embarrassing when I was listening on my earbuds. What a hoot these characters are! The scene in the yoga studio was hysterical. And the narrator was fine. I expected a New Jersey accent but no one had one. I will listen to the next one.

I very much appreciate that a majority of the first books in the series are free to read (with Audible Unlimited). I've been on a kick lately looking for "cozy mysteries" with fun, quirky characters, great mysteries/nice little twists, and an excellent narrator. It's difficult and expensive to try and locate new series, as it's very hard to find all of those elements.

1) Thank you for making the first several free
2) Thank you for writing such a great series -- the main character can seem a little neurotic/insecure (but she does represent a very real human condition and her character is showing nice growth -- I'm in book 4)
3) Thank you for choosing a brilliant narrator, Callie Beaulieu

BONUS #1: the author totally gets cats! Poppy's cat Figaro is a major character rather than just a writing afterthought.

BONUS #2:
the books, characters, and situations are getting funnier with each book.

TIP: For some reason, Book #2 is not Free, but it's completely worth the $$. If you stop with first, you may question whether rest is worth it...IT IS! A lot of new characters get introduced in #2 (plus I prefer to read series in order).

I usually only write reviews if something is REALLY GOOD or REALLY BAD.

I first decided to listen because I could relate to the main character. The story moved along quickly (without any drawn-out character history, thank goodness!).
I laughed out loud many times throughout the story. Love the sense of humor the author has as well as the delivery by the narrator. The main character and her aunt’s personalities were so relatable and believable.

HOW REFRESHING TO MEET SUCH A REAL PROTAGONIST. POPPY IS SOMEONE WITH WHOM I CAN IDENTIFY. SHE MAY BE 30 YEARS YOUNGER, BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER. THE DIALOGUE IS SASSY. THE CHARACTERS COME TO LIFE FOR ME. I WILL BE SO DISAPPOINTED IF AUDIBLE DOES NOT CONTINUE THIS SERIES.

I truly loved this book. It is a great read/listen for anyone who wants to laugh out loud. The back and forth between the past and the present was done really well and I can’t wait to read/listen to other stories by Libby. I definitely recommend this book to everyone.
