Acerca de esta escucha

After bonding with Dawnbringer, the Sacred Sword of Light, Keras Selyrian travels to the nation of Edria to compete in the Tournament of the Sacred Sword. The winner of the tournament will be given a chance to fight for the Sacred Sword of Stone if they can defeat the current wielder, the impossibly powerful Emperor of Edria, in single combat.

Winning the tournament will be no simple endeavor. To succeed, Keras will have to face representatives from every nation, other foreign travelers of great skill, his own allies, other sacred sword wielders...and even a familiar face from his past.

But the tournament itself won't be the only challenge.

When tournament contestants are found dead, Keras discovers the telltale signs of a familiar type of enemy - one that even his own formidable powers might fail to match.

Author's note: This book is designed to set the foundation for plot and character arcs for several books to come, and this means that by necessity, there will be a number of elements introduced in this book that aren't resolved by the end. This is intentional, but it may not work for all listeners. If you prefer stories that feel self-contained, you may be best waiting for at least one more book to come out to listen to them back-to-back.

This series has quickly rose into my top 10, and I have around 300 Audible titles. A lot of times a series with a bunch of books will have some lackluster filler books in them. BUT NOT THIS ONE! Seems like Nick Podehl is either that good that he can make any story sound good or he is very picky and obly chooses ones that will be a blockbuster of a series. listened the whole time on a 11 hour road trip and still wasn't ready to take a break when I arrived! that should tell you about all you need to know

Another great story told by an amazing narrator

to these books is, sequels cannot come out fast enough... like you can't release something with that much of a cliffhanger and then tell us the sequel will be out sometime next year if maybe

the only downside

I stumbled upon the beginning of this series a while ago and this has quickly become one of my favorite book series and I cannot wait for the next book to come out

Now first of all I would still recommend this book to anyone who likes the series, but I wouldnt start anyone off with it of course.

Compared to the other books in the series the best way to describe this one would be the "My Hero Academia" School Festival tournament arc. Tournaments are great Espially in anime, you get to see interesting new characters with new abilities you havnt considered in an ever expanding world, you also get to see your favorite characters show off and really flex. If you've been curious of what our favorite swords men can do in a fight against some daunting odds you'll like this. This book does a good job of making the tournament seem more organic to the characters, Beacuse they like what they do and what they do is fight, but its normally with a reason beyond that.

I personally missed to cleverness and story of the other series with our enchanter pals, or the character driven story of the first 3 books, or the interesting dungon diving and narrative world building of even the 3.5 book. There is a story here but barely, its a lot of what you like in a tournament arc, but with no clear consistency of ability. The author tries to address this at some point directly, but it still seems lacking. Its easy to forget that this is a story within a story and possibly any of your questions of our protagonist's backstory are shifted away from the protag (which isn't a bad thing in my opinion) and more towards other characters.

summary: in anime and other media like it Tournament arcs are great for "filler" in a season with not a lot of plot. However, when the plot does show up its awesome and inpactful. I just would have liked to have a bit more of that cleaver story telling I've grown accustomed to from Mr. Rowe, his characters are certainly interesting and very respectful of one another (rather "woke" on a few tropes in story telling) but this book sure is a fun tournament. I do however, miss the story, but the bits that are shown will make you smile, leave you speechless, or possibly leave you saying "wait...nooo..."

so again, I would still recommend this book as a read but only if you like the series as a whole. I love the series and look forward to the next book when the series plot continues. ;)

Fun story, Espially if you like tournament arcs

I liked this book even more than the first in the series. Took me a bit of time to remember some of the context since it’s been a few months, but once it got rolling there was no stopping. Can’t wait for the next.

Fun

great overall story. Fantastic narration. Nick Podehl has a great range to give you distinctive character voices without being outrageous and distracting. Thank you for another great book Andrew. I look forward to the rest.

Another banger!

Another wonderful story to add to the Arcane Ascension universe. Love the green guardian. This story is another must read in Rowe’s growing library of wonderful tales.
