“Lee Child’s knowledge of the modern military and its combat tactics amazed me. A chilling and all-too realistic story, and a damn good book.” (Steve Thayer)

What made the experience of listening to Die Trying the most enjoyable?

It's not a bad story, and I didn't mind the narration at all

What could Lee Child have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Researched the US military more, much more

Have you listened to any of Jonathan McClain’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I didn't think there was that great of a difference from Dick Hill

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No

Any additional comments?

I wish Lee Child would do more research on American military culture. As a retired Marine, I was grinding my teeth at the constant errors in this story as it pertained to the military. Without giving out any plot lines, just suffice it to say, PLEASE do you research on the American military. Another gripe was the character of the head of the FBI, Child wrote his a total buffoon!

I could tell that Lee Child wasn't American

Child laces together a good story with plenty of tension to keep you involved. The POV is much different than Killing Floor, and I think it is a good choice. What’s missing from Child’s writing is either a lack of research or a disregard for accuracy. Descriptions of firearms and how they function are odd and distracting for anybody with knowledge of the subject matter. Child doesn’t hold back with violence and torture, so don’t listen on an empty stomach.

Look past the technical flaws.

Another great book in the series. Continuous movement in the story/plot.

Wasn’t sure about the reader at first but after the first couple of chapters decided he was the right person to read it.

Highly recommend the series. I’m on to book 3.

Book 2 Done. I’m hooked. On to Book 3

Far better than book 1 with regards to cadence and narration. Story line continued and I have no reservations about continuing with book 3. Should be good...

Chronological order works 4 me! Great job by McClain!

this is a great book if you're reading it. But if you're listening to Jonathan McLane drone on and on for hours, it'll make you want to shoot yourself. He's boring, dull and awful at interpreting emotions and the context of how the characters talk. His interpretations of female characters ALL sound whiney and bratty. All his narrations is this series sounds like a dull lecture with childish voices.

Jonathan McClain sucks at narrating.

This is another solid installment in the Jack Reacher series. It's not in my top five, but it's probably around number six or seven. Tripwire, Persuader, One Shot, and Killing Floor are better, but this one is enjoyable for sure. The narrator did a particularly good job of making the villain sound unlikable.

Solid Reacher outing

The plot was interesting and everything moves fast like all of the Reacher books. Reacher's thought process is muck like Sherlock Holmes and I enjoy watching him calculate solutions to overwhelming problems and getting out of impossible situations.

Another Great Jack Reacher Book

When I started reading this book it sounded ridiculous; White Supremasists in Montana kidnapping a high value target and threatening the government. Then the plot against the governor of Michigan hit the news: White Supremacists in Montana planning to kidnap, try and execute the her. Suddenly, this story became VERY realistic. Good read, love the Jack Reacher stories, a guy beholden to no one, saves the good, dispatches the bad. We need this in 2020.

Very accurate for 2020.
