Arriving on Earth in the midst of the American Civil War, the Doctor and Amy must get a posse together to help them retrieve an alien artifact that has fallen into the clutches of the Confederate Army.The terraforming device belongs to the Cei, a race of invaders who plan to use it to turn the planet into a new home world. But neither the Army nor the aliens are keen to let the Doctor and his gang interfere with their plans, and they give chase across the Wild West.

Tracking the source of the disruption, he takes Rory and Amy to what appears to be an English public school in the 1950s. But the friends discover that there are some very unusual things about Darkstar Academy. For a start the prefects carry guns, and then there is the strange force field that surrounds the perimeter. Not to mention the foot-long, crab-like creatures with spiny, armored bodies....

John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd star in three Torchwood radio adventures from the Lost Files, each set before the TV story Children of Earth. The Devil and Miss Carew sees Gwen and Rhys involved in a nursing home mystery. Submission finds the Torchwood team heading for the bottom of the sea – the Mariana Trench – after they intercept a distress call. The House of the Dead sees a special séance being held at the most haunted pub in Wales.
