Yeah this is definitely dark fantasy gamelit. but it's really good, the story it's really spicy with a lot politics introduced a bit later on. honestly can't wait for the next one but it's been close to a year since book 1 came out so hopefully book 3 won't take long to release

im looking forward to book two! not all stories are comfort and roses, and a hero doing the best with what is available in a growingly worse situation can make for a good tale! seeing villains and antagonist get put in their place, even if they don't know it is a good to watch too. interesting historical ties as well! im here for it.

enthralling story with solid world building

This is a spicy novel with an interesting story. At first it sounded like another story I'd read in the past, but about a third of the way through started diverging into a tale I really enjoyed. I'm looking forward to a second volume.

While I loved the book and cant wait for books 2 - 10 . the level of stat padding here is the most egregious I have ever seen. literally 30 mins at a time. not just stats, but every item he ever purchased and never used.

Do we need 15 seconds of stats on a set of steel throwing knives he picked up randomly and never used? why yes.. yes we do. do we need it in EVERY status recap. of course!!!

what about a ship he built at the start (a super cool scene) and then parked and never used again? of course. And his house.. we need to hear that in every recap.

oh and the 20 random skills like cut, mend, weave? Not only do we need to be reminded about them, we need 13 seconds of detailed descriptions on mana cost per foot (9 35 meters).. lol

that said. it was a great book and he FEARLESSLY touches topics like slavery and abuse .. to build the world.

To be honest, I was taking a chance on this book. I had listened to a couple other books by this author and thought they were good not great just good. Therefore, I was very happily surprised at the quality and content of this book. It is a great story with a great main character and wonderful supporting characters. Each character has their own backstory which provides a rich canvas in which the author paints a wonderful story with lots of twists and turns and interesting details.
In regards to the details, that is one of the things that I was most surprised and happy about. This book really presents a wonderful story that is woven very well and has depths like a beautiful piece of art.
I highly recommend it.

A quick note about the narrators. They were fantastic and really brought all the voices to life. Each voice was distinct and immediately identifiable, which is really what you want and a great audiobook. A big thumbs up to those two.

Overpowered main character to the extreme very spicy and quite dark theme and plot, main character pretends to have scruples but has none. if easily offended this author is not for you, otherwise would strongly recommend.

Fun New Story

The story was written well, but the female voice was absent from a few of the chapters, which made it confusing at times.It might have to be redone with the proper female voice is.

But I’m pretty sure there are missing audio and conversations in the story. It introduced characters into the conversation but there was no audio to go with it
