Acerca de esta escucha

Four chiller novellas set to keep listeners awake long after bedtime.

One Past Midnight: "The Langoliers" takes a red-eye flight from LA to Boston into a most unfriendly sky. Only 11 passengers survive, but landing in an eerily empty world makes them wish they hadn't. Something's waiting for them, you see.

Two Past Midnight: "Secret Window, Secret Garden" enters the suddenly strange life of writer Mort Rainey, recently divorced, depressed, and alone on the shore of Tashmore Lake. Alone, that is, until a figure named John Shooter arrives, pointing an accusing finger.

Three Past Midnight: "The Library Policeman" is set in Junction City, Iowa, an unlikely place for evil to be hiding. But for small businessman Sam Peebles, who thinks he may be losing his mind, another enemy is hiding there as well - the truth. If he can find it in time, he might stand a chance.

Four Past Midnight: "The Sun Dog", a menacing black dog, appears in every Polaroid picture that 15-year-old Kevin Delevan takes with his new birthday gift - with each following photograph beckoning him to the supernatural. Old Pop Merrill, Castle Rock's sharpest trader, wants to crash the party for profit, but the Sun Dog, a creature that shouldn't exist at all, is a very dangerous investment.

I read this book many years ago. I listened for "The Library Policeman". The first time I read this story it affected me deeply. The library is one of my favorite places and to have that place made so terrifying to a child blew my mind.

It didn't pack quite the same punch now. I still enjoyed it and the other stories.

It's all about the policeman for me

Four novellas from the king of horror that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. My all-time favorite “Secret Window, Secret Garden” is among them (I actually liked the movie’s ending better - I felt it was more powerful) but the other three were just as creepy, charged with tension, and impossible to put down. A must-read (must-listen?) for all fans of the genre!

Four chilling novellas!

I enjoyed all the stories in this collection. The only problem I had throughout was with the narration of the first part. The voice the narrator for some strange reason gave the teenage girl was incredibly grating to listen to. Like one of Marge Simpsons lost sisters. It kinda ruined the character for me.

Good production, good stories

I enjoyed all 4. I wish there was a warning for how graphic book 3 was( I still liked the story)

Great books

Willem Dafoe may be great actor, but he sucks at narrating. The voices he creates are so annoying.

Great stories... so so narration

I love this book!!! I highly recommend it to everyone. You won't regret the read.

Too Awesome

I adore Stephen King, but if you’re overly sensitive to weird audio ticks, this isn’t the recording for you. One moment it would be so quiet that I couldn’t hear it at a normal volume, and the next a character would scream and I’d have to turn it down or blast out my eardrums. The random music also drove me crazy. Willem Dafoe is good, but the voices he uses for the female characters (Bethany especially) almost made me return the audiobook. Overall, I recommend getting this one in print. Good stories, but not great audio quality.

Audio and narration are irritating

I read this years ago and enjoyed listening. It is a great collection of novellas (they are too long to be called short stories.) I sometimes get much more from listening - especially a book I've already read - than reading. The one flaw was with the narration of the uber-talented Willem DaFoe. His voice characterizations were great- mostly. What struck my ear badly was the character of the mystery author, Robert (Bob) Jenkins. He sounded spot on - at first - as you'd expect to hear from an erudite professor or stuffy blue-blood. By the last few hours of the story, though, when tension began to run very high, the character of a perceptive author with a gift of logic started to sound like an unflattering caricature of a flamboyant drag queen. It made the last few hours a trifle hard to finish. I also thought Bethany sounded pretty awful throughout, but I'll gut Willem some slack, there. I would imagine it would be difficult to distinguish numerous female voices from little to teenager to grown woman.

Only one flaw

The worst of the audio issues are in the first story "The Langoliers" but they are throughout the other 3 stories as well. If you are a Stephen King fan I would still recommend this collection just be prepared.

Great stories but extremely poor audio quality

The first story is way quiet. A good book of stories though. Words words words
