Acerca de esta escucha

The Gallipoli Campaign stands out as a landmark in the history of the First World War, and it was perhaps the most controversial action; it certainly ended in tragedy.

Joseph Murray was among the 400,000 British and Commonwealth troops taking part, and he served as a naval rating turned soldier in Hood Battalion of the Royal Naval Division. Gallipoli 1915 is based on a diary he kept at the time and his later letters home.

The Battle of Gallipoli was a war of nerves, largely played out underground in the tunnels constantly being built by either side.

Joseph Murray's unflinching and compelling account gives us an insight into the daily life of a First World War soldier and provides an eye-witness report of the horrors and tragedy of the conflict.

Incredibly, the author was able express the naïveté, idealism, & hopes of young soldiers as they came to grips with the reality of the horrors of a mismanaged war with dry humor. Narration is awesome.

Astonishing wit in the midst of an ugly war

This story is to the Gallipoli campaign as "Storm of Steel" is to the German perspective of the Western Front. Great first person account of what life was like in the trenches.

Excellent. from beginning to end.

Loved it, very compelling and moving. The bon flowed well. Sacrifice and death in Gallipoli were par for the course.

Welcome to life in the front line. Absolutely worth a listen to experience what the front lines at Galliopi was like from a sapper's perspective.

First hand experience from solider

I have listened to a lot of WW1 documentaries and only one was a first hand account and on the western front. Gallipoli 1915 was a fresh breath of air and it is also a personal account. Thankfully Joe Murray took the time to write these detailed accounts in his journal.

Incredibly enlightening — the history was truly brought to life by this first-hand account. I am absolutely in awe of bravery, courage, and sacrifice of all who fought in this brutal war. The narration was excellent; it further added to the compelling history and communicated the full range of emotions of the author.
