Acerca de esta escucha

Gerry Sheffield is a miserable man. He can't hold a job or a relationship together for more than a few days, and he hates everything. This week in particular has been a beast. To cope, he drinks too much and uses drugs. His elderly parents won't bail him out anymore. As for his parents, he hates them most of all. When he gets out of jail this time, they have a special surprise for him, and in this pitch-black comedy, it's not what anyone is expecting.

Great book, about a man who has life problems and tries to solve them. Definitely recommend this book as it is well done and very interesting to listen to.

A grim supernatural odyssey of ineptitude and desperation. It starts off strong with amoral slice of life vibes surrounding a layabout ruffian trying unsuccessfully to charm his way through life and getting mean spirited about it. The character elements are good but get a bit monotonous, make it hard to relate to him, and drag a bit over time - at best a nice mature extreme and at worse a dull grumpiness. I loved the wicked twistedness of the last hour. The crux of the plot is how big a loser this guy is but it's oversold without a lot of development in the middle so requires some patience. Narrated with a gruff noir feeling voice that elevates the material and matches well. The writing is engaging and precise, it's well written, but the storyline felt more clever an idea than in execution in the middle after a strong start and a cool end. The forever voices of our parents haunting us is a rich theme and it's dastardly twisted.
