Acerca de esta escucha
Hurting people ask heart-felt questions about God and suffering. The usual answers fail. They don't support the truth God loves everyone all the time. God Can't gives a believable answer to why a good and powerful doesn't prevent evil.
Author Thomas Jay Oord says God’s love is inherently uncontrolling. God loves everyone and everything, so God can't control anyone or anything. This means God cannot prevent evil single-handedly. God can’t stop evildoers, whether human, animal, organism, or inanimate objects and forces.
God Can't was written in understandable language. Thomas Jay Oord's status as a world-renowned theologian brings credibility to the book’s radical ideas. He explains these ideas through true stories, illustrations, and scripture.
God Can't is for those who want answers to tragedy, abuse, and other evils that make sense!

Rarely does a new theological position emerge to account well for life in the world, including not only goodness and beauty but also tragedy and randomness. The Uncontrolling Love of God provides a clear and powerful answer to the problem of evil, the problem of chance, and how God acts providentially in the world.

Most theologies suck. They’re too technical or present a God nobody understands. Sometimes, the God they portray sounds like a controlling boyfriend or an absentee parent. Rather than woo or persuade, many theology books clobber people into submission. This book is different.

In his best-selling book God Can't: How to Believe in God and Love After Tragedy, Abuse, and Other Evils, Thomas Jay Oord solves the problem of suffering. Oord offers five aspects of a real solution to why a loving God doesn't prevent pointless pain. The most controversial: God can't stop evil single-handedly. In this follow-up, Oord answers questions readers of God Can't asked in response to that ground-breaking proposal. The answers in this audiobook solve age-old conundrums.

Historia
Life throws us “curve balls”—from devastating personal losses to world tragedies. These events often leave us doubting God, the Bible, and our faith. But instead of pushing away our reservations, we should embrace them, Peter Enns argues. A leading biblical scholar and Christian mentor, Enns has never been afraid to question the Bible or Christian beliefs. Such thoughtful inquisitiveness, he argues, is part of God’s plan. He wants us to question, because doing so actually leads to a stronger, lasting faith.

Do I Stay Christian? addresses in public the powerful question that surprising numbers of people—including pastors, priests, and other religious leaders—are asking in private. Picking up where Faith After Doubt leaves off, Do I Stay Christian? is not McLaren's attempt to persuade Christians to dig in their heels or run for the exit. Instead, he combines his own experience with that of thousands of people who have confided in him over the years to help readers make a responsible, honest, ethical decision about their religious identity.

Historia
A strong case can be made that love is the core of Christian faith. And yet, Christians often fail to give love center stage in biblical studies and theology. And, most fail to explain what they mean by love. Why is this? Thomas Jay Oord explores this question and offers groundbreaking answers. Oord addresses leading Christian thinkers today and of yesteryear. He explains biblical forms of love, such as agape, philia, hesed, and ahavah. We should understand love’s meaning as uniform, he says, but its expressions are pluriform.

Historia
Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance.

Historia
A lifelong pursuit of knowing God should embody the Christian's existence. According to eminent theologian J.I. Packer, however, Christians have become enchanted by modern skepticism and have joined the "gigantic conspiracy of misdirection" by failing to put first things first. Knowing God aims to redirect our attention to the simple, deep truth that to know God is to love His Word.

Reseñas de la Crítica
"To find your understanding of life and your love for God renewed, read this book." (Dr. Karen Strand Winslow, Ph.D., Professor of Bible, Azusa Pacific University)
“Victims of trauma sometimes hear theological responses that imply their suffering is somehow “God’s will." Oord gives us a clear and compelling alternative in this profoundly insightful and admirably concrete and accessible book.” (Dr. Anna Case-Winters, Professor of Theology at McCormick Theological Seminary)
“I know of no book that speaks to suffering with the depth of theological sophistication and psychological sensitivity as God Can’t. I recommend it to my students, parishioners, and therapy clients.” (Dr. Brad D. Strawn, Professor of Psychology and Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary)
It will change your views of God, but I promise you, it will change them for your and God's betterment!

As I was listening to the authors very convincing talk, I none the less kept repeating the question, “than how are you supposed to pray to God?”. To a “God who can’t.” (I have been praying this prayer every day the past number of years, sometimes multiple times a day, and the recent years in Greek. I am a Christian of 58 years. ) What the author is saying makes real sense. Listening to the very last word, and repeating the Lord’s Prayer, I suddenly realized, this is the prayer that the real loving Jesus (God) taught us to pray, and this is the perfect prayer, nothing more but nothing less.
Your insight is profound, and life changing Dr. Oord. I can’t thank you enough! (John K.)
