Acerca de esta escucha

When hometown horrors come back to haunt, friendship is salvation in a novel about childhood fears and buried secrets by #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense Dean Koontz.

As kids, outcasts Rebecca, Bobby, Spencer, and Ernie were inseparable friends in the idyllic town of Maple Grove. Three left to pursue lofty dreams—and achieved them. Only Ernie never left. When he falls into a coma, his three amigos feel an urgent need to return home. Don’t they remember people lapsing into comas back then? And those people always awoke…didn’t they?

After two decades, not a lot has changed in Maple Grove, especially Ernie’s obnoxious, scary mother. But Rebecca, Bobby, and Spencer begin to remember a hulking, murderous figure and weirdness piled on mystery that they were made to forget. As Ernie sinks deeper into darkness, something strange awaits any friend who tries to save him.

For Rebecca, Bobby, and Spencer, time is running out to remember the terrors of the past in a perfect town where nothing is what it seems. For Maple Grove, it’s a chance to have the “four amigos,” as they once called themselves, back in its grasp.

Dean Koontz is definitely an award-winning writer. He totally deserves any awards he gets. His books are always awesome and always keep me enthralled throughout the entire story. This one was a little different, but still great. We love you, Dean.

The story was more fantastical than serious. The characters were well written. This is not the “normal” type of DK book. The actor’s voice was mellow and soothing. It worked in this story.

A different kind of story

I don’t want to spoil any of the story because some people will enjoy it and I like pretty much everything thing he writes. As always he builds good characters in this story and keeps you wondering what will happen next.

Not one of his best stories

I enjoyed this book. I don't get the negative reviews. Mr. Koontz always surprises me with his outlook on life and love.

The great love and devotion of these friends is wonderful.

Slick humor. Scary things. Freaky small town. Is it a good community, or are the neighbors you've known for decades bat shit crazy?

It's a fun trip into Kontz Land

The story isn’t as robust as earlier work, and many of the political leanings don’t add to the story. The fossil fuel vs other sources - how does that impact the amigo’s story? However the description of Professor/Mother was priceless Koontz!

Story Ok

If Stephen King’s IT and Duffers’ Stranger Things had a baby, and it was then raised by Nicholas Cage and Steve Martin, it would be this book.
Unapologetically “mental popcorn,” felt like going to a scary movie made primarily for young adults.

Intentionally fatuous and cliche - to be read with a humorous desire to evade boredom

Koontz used to be one one of my favorite authors. I always enjoyed his mix of science and horror in his stories. But his recent work is just too wordy, too slow, to preachy. This one felt like he was talking to a room full of idiots that don't understand nuance and have to have everything explained to them in the largest words available, then have the word explained because he thought you were too stupid to know the meaning. The basic story was good, although it gave me a 2nd rate Stephen King's It vibes. I just wish he could have found a better way to tell it. And the narrator - don't use him again.

What's going on with Koontz?

I really enjoyed the book and koontz is def a fav. Great developed characters. I wish Brita would have gotten what she deserved or her mouth sweep shut.

I just can't fathom the negative reviews on this book. no, it is not your average Dean Koontz novel, and that is why it was so good. I am a massive fan of Dean and his writing style, but it was nice to experience something a little different.

I was a little skeptical as the book started based on some of the reviews, but within a short period, that was put to rest. I really enjoyed the story, and I was drawn in very quickly. performance was excellent as well. give it a try, but also temper your expectations if You're expecting typical Koontz. it's different, but in a strangely good way.

Not your same ol Koontz
