In her sizzling, award-winning novels of suspense, best-selling author Suzanne Brockmann delves into the adrenaline-rushed world of counterterrorism - and taps into the real passions of its brave men and women. In Gone Too Far she spins a story of action, intrigue, and romance as a US Navy SEAL and an FBI agent race to unravel a mystery while confronting their unresolved feelings for each other.
In his career as one of America's elite warriors, Lieutenant Sam Starrett can do no wrong. In his private life, Sam - the king of one-night stands - has done little right. Now, he's waiting for a divorce and determined to stay active in his young daughter's life. But when Sam shows up at the door of his ex-wife's home in Sarasota, Florida, he makes a grisly discovery. His daughter is gone, and a woman lies brutally murdered on the floor.
FBI agent Alyssa Locke's relationship with Sam has been overwhelmingly intense and nearly catastrophic, yet it refuses to end. The last time she saw Sam was six months earlier, when they worked together to stop terrorists from assassinating the president. Much to her dismay, Alyssa is assigned to lead the murder investigation, and once again the two are face-to-face. When explosive information surfaces linking Sam to the still-unsolved assassination plot, the stakes are raised. With her reputation on the line and her loyalties in question, Alyssa is faced with an impossible dilemma: arrest a man she believes to be innocent or risk her career.
While Alyssa tries to fight their intense attraction, Sam is determined to heat things up once again. And the complex case pushes them both to the wrong side of the law - and on the run to discover the truth. As more agents step into the chase, and with Sam's daughter still unaccounted for, neither Alyssa nor Sam can predict just how deadly hot this situation is about to become.

If you could sum up Gone Too Far in three words, what would they be?
Typically great story.Who was your favorite character and why?
Cannot select just one great character, as that is Brockmann's specialty - developing realistic, complex characters. She is able to endear her readers to even her most flawed characters (Mary Lou). Isn't that what the real world is like? Most people have redeeming qualities, and major weaknesses. What didn’t you like about Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank ’s performance?
Melanie Ewbank - she just read the story. A good narrator performs the story, so you forget it is being read. Sam no longer had a great Southern drawl, and the other characters sounded pretty similar. For the price of an audio-book, I believe the reading should be a performance (and fortunately, they usually are). Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I enjoyed the Sam/Alyssa interplay, Gina's confidence and maturity in dealing with Max, Mary Lou's development and growth, and the back story of Noah's parents. Brockmann's weaving in of WWII stories is masterful.Any additional comments?
Usual Brockmann great story, but the female narrator is ... not great (sorry, not trying to be mean). I listened to all of the Troubleshooter stories some years ago, and it seems that they re-recorded them with new narrators. I still have some of the originals, so I enjoy them, but the others came from the library, and I can no longer get with the old narrators. Sigh. Guess I'll have to read them if I want to continue the series a second time around!I Miss the Previous Narrator

It’s 6 months later, but this storyline picks up from the action from Into the Night.
Sam goes to FL to pick up the divorce papers that MaryLou was to sign. He goes to the house to find a body and no Hailey. Turns out it’s Janine and MaryLou and Hailey are hiding from the terrorist mastermind who will kill her to keep from being identified.
Sam calls the FBI to take charge of the investigation without really understanding how dire things actually are. The situation is escalated when ML’s prints match those on a weapon; and Tom Paoletti is questioned about the guns being part of a shipment that should have been destroyed. Guess Donny did see those aliens. Tom finally gets his wish.
I really liked Alyssa’s conversation with Sam about him being Hailey’s father and caring for her.
The secondary storyline with Dot and Walter was wonderful; both from WWII and 30 years later, when Noah and Roger are young.
Lawlor does a good job of narration. Ewbank does a good job with the character voices, but 1.75 speed works best for her readings.
More Intensity

Where does Gone Too Far rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Way up near the top. In the Troubleshooters Series alone, this is in the top 3 easily, and the Troubleshooters Series is miles above nearly every other romantic and/or romantic suspense book I've read. What did you like best about this story?
Um, Everything. Sam and Alyssa, Max and Gina, Walt and Dot, Tom and Kelly (omg the wedding), Sam's 'adoptive' family and the dichotomy between a very country/southern boy being raised by a black family, Ibrahim coming for Mary Lou, Sam's screaming out the helicopter at Max talking to Alyssa, the teenage sniper-in-training... It's all just so good.Which scene was your favorite?
There's no way I could pick one, or even three. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Sam and Alyssa's confrontation in the back of the walmart. Holy geezus. Also, the explosion that injures Kelly, Tom's reaction(s), Izzy... Ouch my heart.Needs More than Five Stars
