Acerca de esta escucha

Twenty years ago, Jason was pulled into a world of magic and monsters.

He was promised a life of wandering his new home and having adventures, but things got out of hand pretty quickly. He met with kings and gods, fought interdimensional cults, and got in a knife fight with the guy who creates universes. He didn't win. What he'd never done was roam around, having nice, sensible adventures. He hadn't even seen the hometown of his friends, and that had been the first destination on his list.

Two decades on, he'd saved whole civilizations and the Earth, several times. He was freshly returned from a conflict with the fate of the cosmos at stake, where the battlefield was his soul and the combatants were the governing forces of reality. It was a fight he had no chance of winning, which was why he rigged it and pinched the prize while everyone was distracted.

Now, Jason is determined to reunite with his friends and have the simple adventuring life he always wanted. He won't let anyone get in his way, not angelic armies, scheming guilds, or the people who want to talk about that time he altered the fundamental laws of magic. Which isn't as bad as it sounds, he promises.

Jason's taking a gap year, whatever he has to do to make it happen. Manipulate a prestigious noble house into liberating a slave town. Attempt to extort every government on the planet. Blow up and subsequently rebuild the occasional city. Gods help anyone who tries to stop him, but the gods probably won't because they've met Jason and they know how that usually goes.

After the massive events of Book 11, in this book Mr. Aloon dials things back, restoring to our cosmic hero a bit of humanity. We get some new maturity, a peek at budding romance, and we feel as though Jason is once again just a dude trying to figure his stuff out.

Some might feel that this installment was a bit flat after Book 11, but I think Shirtaloon made an investment in this book to keep Jason relatable — he’s a complex person in a complex universe, but he’s also a man with friends and commitments and a desire to be a good person in a tangible way.

Hats off to Shirtaloon who continues his masterclass in how to write humans, not just characters.

A solid return to a new phase

I will say this was a very enjoyable listen, not a whole lot of plot progression but felt more like a brief intermission between the next big event and touched a little bit of each area I think everyone wanted to hear, beyond happy I didn’t have to hear a recap of every ability anyone used like I haven’t been listening for the last 11 books in the series!

My only complaint is the author continually shoving his personal politics down the listeners throat, like dude you’ve spent hours telling us your thoughts on your personal political beliefs in the last 11 books. Just say they’re gender neutral and move on, I don’t need to hear a whole tangent about it every book and it’s gonna do more harm than good.

Kind of a recap, tired of personal politics

All hail the astral nexus 👑. Everything I wanted Thank you shirt. Can’t wait for book 13

God it was so goood

It likes a reunion of friends with the latest adventure just beginning. Seeing Jason’s always brings out his humanity even as he transcends.

Never fails

this one felt very rushed most of the time I felt like I was hearing a summary of what happened

love the series but...

This is such a throwback loved the storyteller and I wonder what will happen to the magic society

PERFECT

There are so many things about this books that are amazing! I think the thing that the author does best though is portray the relationships between people. From the love that Jason has for his friends and the trust that he has in them and them in him but also the struggles that go along with that. The reconnecting of Jason and his friends to the image that he left behind on earth and trying to navigate through that on his return. It’s complex, and well thought through but also incredibly simple and heartwarming when you really think about it.

The overall humanity

Not as polished as the rest of the series, but a decent listen that’s a must for background for the storyline.

Love the series but this seams a bit scattered

I like the story as its own thing and I kind of like how it makes fun of socialism and communism in a background sense I'm not sure if that's intentional but the one thing I

don't like is how The author is having the issues on Earth that are real bleed over into this 100% fantasy world the whole they them made up garbage

it's like really I could understand if you had it on earth I would have preferred if they just left it out altogether and kept the book series

separate from reality and I don't like the fact that they're bringing in at Andrew Tate version of ideology into it and twisting it even further I like how the book series is

progressing just don't like how they're bringing in reality and reality fiction into the books but I don't know maybe it can't be avoided

Also if you made it this far I'm not sure if it's my phone or the audio file that I downloaded but near the beginning of the

book there seems to be some kind of weird audio warping that doesn't seem intentional and it lost a point because multiple times the reader got

the voices very wrong at one point Danielle and Jason's talking in a group and their voices were the wrong voices I mean the characters were in the group but they weren't speaking at the moment the

even screwed up Humphrey at one point they made Humphrey sound like Jason and it wasn't for like a word or two it was like a good length sent where Humphrey

sounded like Jason but the good thing but not good enough for a point it doesn't happen too often but it is very noticeable when it does

good but

As always story is great. The narrator is much closer to a voice actor at this point. World building is fantastic. Keep the books coming

Another great one!
