Acerca de esta escucha
.“I want to be proudly gay when I grow up,” eight-year old Austin Smith said when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up during career day in his third grade class. That statement placed an eight-year old boy on a possible collision course with the Governor of the State of Florida who wanted to be President of the United States. A small town school and town were frantic to discover why Austin said he wanted to be proudly gay and prove they did not violate the state’s "Don't Say Gay" laws on providing gender orientation instruction. The teacher, school Principal and his parents were puzzled about why this eight-year-old boy made that statement. News of what Austin said spread locally and nationally. Austin’s words threatened to create a crisis in his small school and town that would tear them apart. Everyone was shocked to find out why Austin said he wanted to be proudly gay when he grew up.
