Former mercenary Bull Krebbs now heads up security at his nightclub in Harrisburg, PA. Working the door night after night, he's seen it all. Though tough on the outside, he's a little hurt that people find him unapproachable. Then he pulls a cute twink out of line to perform a random search, and he's surprised when the guy giggles and squirms.
Zach Spencer, graphic artist, twink, and seriously ticklish, isn't intimidated by Bull. He's in awe, and when Bull saves Zach from being trampled on the dance floor, Zach finds his inspiration for the superhero in his graphic novel.
Soon Zach wants more and makes his move by asking Bull on a date. Though small, he has a backbone of steel. He'll need it-their happily ever after is thwarted at every turn, including by Bull's interloping mother showing up unannounced and enemies from Bull's past threatening to pull him to the other side of the world.

Not Just What You See

I listened to this as part of the Romance package and would not have otherwise sampled this author. I thought this was worth a listen and intend to try out more of his books.
An ok listen, but it didn't really grab me.

I thought the story was good, but not anything great. I liked the age and size difference between the MC's and their back stories were good. I thought the intrigue of the story line was the weak part. Mr. Grey is good with the love portion of his stories but the military for hire aspect did not have a realism that authors that specialize in that have.
The narration was great.

I didn’t really feel all the feels but it was good enough to keep reading. While the characters felt a little caricaturish, how some of the character arcs evolved surprised me a little, in a good way. Also how many characters got arcs. If you read it as camp, it goes down easier. I thought the bad ex “FIL” was a Colombian drug lord until he turned out to be a middle eastern sheik. The intermediary guy seemed like he was doing a telenovela spy imitation. If campy spies with no situational awareness will drive you batty, maybe move along. If not, enjoy.
The prose was basic. “They left the house. Then they got in the car.” basic. But it wasn’t bad. There were several scuffles and some campy drama. Bull & Zach lived richer lives by the end and the author got to kvetch about weird alcohol laws.
Steam factor is pretty low but there is on-page m/m naked sexytimes & my scale for steam may have more room on the upper end than yours. No concerns about care or consent between the main characters, which is always good news for romance.
I partly got the book, thru the Audible Romance Package, because I like the narrator. It was ok but not top tier, maybe because of the wooden prose? But I had just slogged thru 30 hours of dark fantasy and this book, while having some nasty/mean elements, was overall cheery enough to lighten my mood.
Campy and upbeat

Would you consider the audio edition of Inside Out to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the book, but the narration of the story was really good. What was one of the most memorable moments of Inside Out?
When the two main characters meet. What does John Solo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He has a warm and pleasant voice and makes the characters come alive. I really enjoyed listening to him.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book made me laugh. Nothing was really extreme just very pleasant.Any additional comments?
This is one of the books that I will listen to again and again. I may even get the e-book version one day.Really good story
