Acerca de esta escucha

In Julius Caesar, there are no heroes, only heroic words spoken by men of ambition, arrogance, and jealousy. Yet Julius Caesar is also one of Shakespeare's most popular and polished works, a seamless blend of highly-stylized oratory and penetrating soliloquies that lays bare the innermost workings of the human mind. Here is Shakespeare in his prime, taking the story of history's most notorious assassination and fashioning from it a brilliant and at times chilling indictment of politics by violence and of how even the strongest and noblest of minds can be corrupted by flattery and the lure of power.©1964, 1996 HarperCollinsPublishers Clásicos

Reseñas editoriales

One of the most infamous assassinations in history is the driving force in this classic play from William Shakespeare. Produced with a full and fiery cast, Julius Caesar comes roaring to life, and within minutes listeners will understand the influence and mastery Shakespeare wielded. This particular play is full of some of Shakespeare’s greatest soliloquies, including the famous funeral oration from Marc Anthony. Whether you are an avid fan of classical dramas or haven’t revisited Shakespeare since your school days, this production of Julius Caesar is bound to ignite a love for the one of the greatest playwrights in English history.

A wonderful production of Shakespeare's profoundly moving and profoundly political play. Anthony Quayle provides a solid philosophical anchor as Brutus and Ralph Richardson is appropriately august as Caesar. If you recall this play tepidly from High School, listen to it again. It is thrilling drama, moves like lightning, and Marc Antony's funeral oration -- cleverly performed here -- is every bit as great as its reputation would insist. The political in-fighting and propaganda of the play are very familiar and sophisticated and -- going in to an election year -- should be required listening or reading.
