Ava Jones has settled for a life that she's not sure she wants anymore, but won't admit it. Her best friend Erica Davidson talks her into taking a break on the Isle of Wight. Her days on the island are spent thinking things through and arguing with Morgan, whom she hates on principle. Is it so wrong for her to want a life that follows the script of an honest-to-god romance film?

Leanne Yau has a beautiful voice. I love her accent and she narrates flawlessly. Her pace is perfect and easy to follow and the characters are all distinct. An overall wonderful listen.

Where does Just Like in the Movies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I liked this short audiobook a lot, but it is not in my top 10 stories as I have a big library. This was my first listen of a book with British humor. Also, I prefer a longer book (this was about 1 1/2 hours compared to most books in my library which are over 8 hours)What was one of the most memorable moments of Just Like in the Movies?
I liked in when Ava met Morgan at the bookstore in the beginning. She wasn't looking to meet anyone and initially clashed like oil and waterWhich character – as performed by Leanne Yau – was your favorite?
Ava and Morgan were the main characters of this book, but I liked her friend EricaAny additional comments?

The narrator did a good job bringing the story to life. Her accent was easy to understand and she kept a good pace.
Ava and Erica go to spend 10 days at the beach. Ava meets Morgan and they get off on the wrong foot.

If you could sum up Just Like in the Movies in three words, what would they be?
Short story with a lot of story line going on. Loved Ava. Even as undecided as she was, she still knew what she wanted out of lifeAva has been content but knowing things were missing from her life and her relationship. A vacation changes all that and gives some kind of contentment.

Erica invites Ava to go on a ten day vacation to a house by the beach.
While there Ava meets Morgan who she clashes with straightaway. He just gets under her skin.
She returns home to realise that she needs a change of life and makes her move.
Performed by Leanne Yau, I had to slow down the reading speed a little. Otherwise her performance was good. Giving gaps between chapters showing clearly where new chapters began.
She brings the story to life. Her accent adds a little something to the story and the characters are all distinct.

Summary:
A young British woman (Ava) stays in a beach house over the summer with a friend (Erica). She realizes some things need to change in her life. She falls for the handsome, irritating handyman and bookstore worker. (Don’t remember his name.)
Additional Comments:
- Being from the UK, Leanne Yau does British accents very well, so she fit the story excellently. She does speak a tad on the fast side. I usually put books at 2.5x, but had to slow it down to 2x to be able to comprehend anything, but that’s neither here nor there. The performance was certainly a strong point in the experience.
- Some stories are great for audio. Others, like this, should be adjusted before being shoehorned into the medium. The only reason for act whatever, scene whatever to be read is a lame attempt at making it like a screenplay. The tie to the title comes in about the last paragraph.
- I probably would have rated this higher if I liked the main character more. She’s whiny, annoying, and rude most of the time. That makes her realistic, but not somebody I want to spend time with even in written form.
- This being a short story, there is decent character growth but that means I spent 3/4 of the book disliking the MC and 1/4 tolerating her.
- Content warnings: a few random curses.
Conclusion:
If you’re a die-hard, (relatively) clean romance fan who loves British accents, this is a good choice for you.
* I received a free copy of the book. I chose to review it and these are my honest thoughts.
