The letters in this book present the reader with a fascinating account of the Crimean War as experienced by Roger Fenton. He was the first official war photographer in the world. The Crimean War 1853-1856 was a conflict in the middle of the nineteenth century between Russia on the one side and France, Britain, the Ottoman Empire and Sardinia on the other. It was the war which made Florence Nightingale famous and it is also known for the Charge of the Light Brigade.
