Acerca de esta escucha

Lady Amber Langston has been widowed for more than a year. With time on her hands, she spends her days teaching the village children to read and do sums. She is on her way home after such a day when a wheel on her coach hits a pothole and the wheel breaks. One of the village men escorting her home, helps her out of the coach and then removes the wheel to take back to the village for repairs. After some time, the sun sets and the air turns quite chilly. Amber feels the cold through her thin coat and rubs her hands together, in an effort to warm them. Suddenly, there is the sound of an approaching coach, which stops and the driver opens the coach's door and out steps aa very tall, broad shouldered gentleman. Amber's heart freezes in her chest. Big men terrify her and as he starts walking toward her, she takes deep breaths to remain calm and reminds herself that all big men are not monsters.
Lord Owen Hawke is on his way home after a two year absence. His driver informs him of the road being blocked by the broken down coach and being the gentleman that he is, he offers the warmth of his coach to the lady who is apparently feeling the effects of the cold. Hawke notices that she is dressed all in black, including hat and veil and assumes she is a widow. He introduces himself, but the lady does not reciprocate. She thanks him and walks toward his coach. After seeing her safely inside, Hawke joined the other men. By the time the repaired wheel is replaced on the widow's coach, Hawke is quite cold himself and is glad to inform the widow that she can resume her journey. When he opens the door to his coach, he can see by the moonlight that she has removed her hat and veil and her head is leaning against the side of the coach. She is fast asleep. Hawke stands for a moment and takes in her golden hair and is surprised at how young she is. Not wanting to embarrass her, he quietly closes the door of the coach and then knocks several times, to awaken her. He waits until she acknowledges his knock before opening the coach door and sees that she has replaced her hat and veil and is sitting primly with her hands in her lap. Hawke almost smiles, but instead he offers her his hand in assistance. She seems hesitant to take it and her action is a puzzlement to Hawke. Even more so, when she is safely out of his coach, she hurries away with "Thank you, sir, for your kindness" thrown over her shoulder. It is not the treatment that Hawke usually receives from the opposite sex, but he reminds himself, she is after all, a widow.
