Acerca de esta escucha

Having saved virtually every letter her father wrote to her between the years 1938, when she was 11 years old, and 1967, Miriam Marx' letters from her famous father Groucho show an extraordinary father-daughter relationship.

The ups and downs of Groucho's film, radio and television careers, two divorces and two remarriages, and Miriam's often tumultuous young adulthood reveal many facets of a man many know only through his film roles and as the quipping quizmaster of You Bet Your Life.

Groucho is revealed as a man deeply concerned with holding his family together and as a sometimes firm, always loving father who never hesitated to say exactly what he thought.

Featuring a forward written and narrated by Dick Cavett.

Very interesting to hear the personal conversations of a man most known for his portrayal of comedic caricature of himself. It's an insight into what it would be like to have Groucho Marx for a father. I wonder if the way he talked in these letters were specific to him or if all parents born in the late 1800s spoke to their kids the same way. with the straight forward "hey, you can come up with something more interesting to write me about" and the " I don't know why I keep writing these letters, I have not heard back from.you in three weeks" type statements.

glad I listened to this book. PS...it really felt like Groucho reading it too. solid Groucho Marx impression.

So interesting

The author Frank Ferrante tells a honest view of what it was like being in Groucho's house the last 3 years of his life. I could not stop listening. I was once a service job where I got to meet many of the older celebrities mentioned in this book. I wish I knew the people I knew for many years was actually friends with Grouch, such as Sally Kellerman. Great job!
