Acerca de esta escucha

As "Love Me Tender" plays in the background, Debbie Carmichael determines to salvage her family's restaurant, Sweet Sal's Soda Shoppe, after her father's health fails. Teen heartthrob Bobby Conrad agrees to perform at a fundraiser concert. But just two weeks before the highly publicized event, Bobby backs out of the benefit. Enter Johnny Hartman, a young, unknown singer. Debbie soon realizes the twists and turns leading up to the concert have been divinely orchestrated. And it isn't dreamy Bobby Conrad who has stolen her heart - but the tender Johnny Hartman.

Loved the characters. Loved the story. Loved that it was a Christian story. Loved that it was set in the 50's. I just loved the book!

What made the experience of listening to Love Me Tender the most enjoyable?

Love me Tender is a fun story for those who would like to reminisce about the past. The fun part of this story is that at the beginning of each chapter we get some fun bits of info about the 50s. Just before we see the story unfold in each chapter, an announcement is made in the Heart Throb Magazine telling about the movie stars from Hollywood along with their love affairs, divorces and marriages. I even got to hear about the clothes and hair trend of the era, while gas prices were 50 cents a gallon. Each announcement kept me up to date as I followed the fun story about a young man who makes it big as a star. American Band Stand! Elvis Presley! Bobby Socks!

Janice Thompson's love story was easy to follow and very sweet. I enjoyed the take back to the 1950's and I thought she stayed true to the time period both in plot and character development. Leading heavily with the Christian influence--I mean, it's in the title-- in all elements of the novel, I enjoyed that the message was not pushed "in your face" but rather subtle and encouraging and worked well with many of the character's demeanor. Could that be found in real life, not sure, but it worked for this novel.

Narrator Piper Brown had a sweet and easy to listen to voice which worked perfect for this tale. Her character voice changes were sometime not very distinct which caused a little confusion as to who was speaking, but I truly enjoyed her ability to not go over the top and create a great listening environment with her pacing, and tempo.

Overall I would recommend this book.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet and Easy

Romances are not usually my cup of tea, but I found this one sweet and delightfully tender. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Narration was wonderful; the characters really came alive through their varied natures, but at no point were the differences distracting or awkward. Give it a listen!

Great story, fantastic narration.

I loved it! The 50's were before my time (I was born in 1962), but since I used to watch Happy Days, I could picture the characters in my head.

The Bee's Knees! Really Keen!

I usually love Janice Thompsons books. I have listened to most of them on audible. However, the girl in this story is so shallow in her facination with the famous actor that it gets in the way of admiring her for her big heart and kindness. It may be my personal dislike for celebrity chasers and fawning girls fainting over celebrities, but I just can't enjoy her. the narrator is wonderful and the other characters are very likeable. The over the top alliteration with names in the story gets a little old. Maybe that is how it was in the 50s. I don't know.
