It is an interesting book. I thought it would be more about the profilers than descriptions about the serial killers. He goes through all the “big” serial killers and some small ones I have never heard of, so I thought that was interesting.

Interesting

Sociopaths/psychopaths and serial killers had always fascinated me. Perhaps I am a bit of a sociopath myself and thus the fascination. But it is also perhaps thus why I felt something was off about the writer from the beginning.. the preface and his introduction. I do not dwell in psychology but there was just something off.. his adamant claim that his rough childhood did not turn him into a serial killer, his claims of empathy towards convicted serial killers and his claims to further understand them.. which btw I did not encounter in the book. Inconsistency of his claims in between serial killers interviews and discussion.. everythign was just off. So by the second chapter I tried to search about this book and about the writer and i was not delusional... apparently this particular book has been recalled since there were allegations against the author that he had made up his interviews.
It was still a fascinated listen as from then onwards i listen in the intend to read the writer’s mind as in my opinion he is the other sociopath that he himself was trying to figure out while writing his semi fictional book

The other psychopath

This work is well written and really dives deep into the psyche of the serial killer. They aren't monsters, they are men (or women) who are predators and make terrible decisions that a "normal" person wouldn't make. They usually have terrible childhoods, but not always. What I became very aware of is that, at any time, I could be walking by one of these people on the streets and I would never know it. Humbling thought.

Intriguing

Very descriptive interviews of all serial killers. The book was descriptive of each difference in personality.

Well written

Did not finish this because the narrators voice was hurting my ears. Not trying to be mean, I just have sensitive ears.

the book highlighted many of the serial killer origin. the social, psychological, and mental illness factors that affected in producing serial killers. the book relies on interviews in general. there is no clinical research or observation.

very good book.

Lots of interesting details on various killers and their backgrounds. Author is himself involved in the justice system so predictably, he's overly optimistic about the state of policing and the ability of the system to intervene in extreme cases. Still very much worth a read but take the pro-justice stuff with a heap of salt. Narrator occasionally repeats a line.

too optimistic about the state of the system
