Acerca de esta escucha

In the third book of The Fancy Lives of the Lear Sisters trilogy, a dreamy, sheltered heiress finds herself thrust into the real world, never imagining that a cold dose of reality holds the key to her happily ever after.

Rachel Lear lives in a dream world with her head in the clouds - and it’s starting to show. There’s the dissertation she can’t quite finish, the ex-boyfriend whom she has yet to kick to the curb, and those pesky 20 pounds she keeps meaning to lose. But when her overbearing father finally runs out of patience and cuts her off from the family fortune, Rachel finds herself thrust into the real world. She never could have guessed that’s where she would finally meet a knight in shining armor....

Handsome, charming, and with an English accent to boot, Flynn Oliver is exactly like the heroes Rachel reads about in romance novels. A man that sexy could have any woman he wants - but he only has eyes for Rachel. There’s just one catch: Flynn isn’t a fairy-tale prince. He’s a real man, with real secrets. Secrets that could destroy Rachel’s dreams - or give her the perfect ending after all.

I love all Julia London books in this series. Natalie Rose is an amazing narrator.

In general I really enjoyed the book. The narrator can not do a good job for the hero’s British accent to save her life. Aside from that the heroine’s character is very weak to the point it gets quite frustrating all throughout the book. The heroine gets cut off by her father to teach her a lesson and throughout the book we see her struggles to stay afloat. There are days where she supposedly has no money to even eat and yet she continues to pay a cell phone bill when her ex (the freeloader) takes her phone with him. Oh yes and when the freeloader comes by he always manages to eat a sandwich when she can't find anything to eat herself. Yah Right!!! And she can’t say see ya???? Super weak character. Not sure how anyone with that personality type can ignite passion in a very confident, very handsome James Bond type character but then I guess that’s where I am wrong.

Other supporting characters were not too well developed and the hero’s background is not well explained. Some explanation is given but not that in depth.

Overall the story was good, if you can overlook her personality, and I loved the hero’s character. The book is written in Julia London’s style. So if you are a fan and are not the type to get peaked by character flaws and white magic then go for it, otherwise read some of her other books.

Any additional comments?

I am reminded that I should write reviews immediately after reading a book, because the plots tend to all blur into one big novel, if I wait too long. So, all I can say is that I enjoyed being in the Lear world for one more book, but the British accent killed the male lead for me. I was able to overlook it after a while and she seemed to do well with the female Brit characters. But the male lead sounded at times like Irish, at times like Texan. Too distracting from the great dialogue. I personally can't imagine having to jump from southern American accent into British for a whole novel, so kudos for that at least.Try it if this doesn't get under your skin!

The accent was a miss for me

I’m trying to figure out what’s more annoying, listening to the narrator or how naive and shallow the main character is. Like really, can a person be that naive? Why would you allow your ex to come and go into her house as they want and allow them use her the way they did. The laugh from the narrator as they read was very irritating and some of the voices used was annoying. The other two books were okay but this one was too boring and it took to long for the author to get to the point.

Not worth it

What did you like best about Miss Fortune? What did you like least?

good outline, but I am done w/ this author. She needs a better editor. Slow story, had some good characters, but author or editor did not know what to do with them. I have 2 other books from this author and I am very sad I purchased them.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I am about 40% done and am struggling to finish. Can this be any slower.

What does Natalie Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ms Ross had the only redeeming quality for this listen. I purchased all 3 because Ms Ross can read a phone book and make it sound good, but she can not not make up for slow writing.

Must love Julia London

In the last installment in the story of the Lear Sisters, it's Rachel's turn in the hot seat. As with her sisters, Rachel is cut off from the family money and has to make her own way. The trouble is, as I see it, her sisters were at least trying to be grown-ups when dad cuts them off, Not so Rachel, who is in her 30s and still kind of working towards her doctorate, while living in the house dad bought and not working at any paying job.

Enjoyed the first book in the series, the second was interesting too, this one was just too long and the characters were just a bit dim.

I love Natalie Ross, but this book was so annoying. Rachel's character was so gullible and just plan dumb it was hard to listen to the whole book. Plus the chemistry was completely lacking between Flynn and Rachel. Very disappointing
