Acerca de esta escucha

Amanda Grange's style and wit bring readers back to Jane Austen's timeless storytelling, but always from a very unique and unusual perspective. And now Grange is back with an exciting and completely new take on Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet.

Mr. Darcy, Vampyre starts where Pride and Prejudice ends and introduces a dark family curse so perfectly that the result is a delightfully thrilling, spine-chilling, breathtaking listen. A dark, poignant and visionary continuation of Austen's beloved story, this tale is full of danger, darkness, and immortal love.

I love Jane Austin, I have a weakness for vampire romances, and I adore Mr. Darcy. These should all go together well, right? Not in this book. The first half is spent waiting for something to happen. The second half is spent wishing we could get more details about what is happening. The author sticks rigidly to Austin's style, but without the humor which made it so charming. We end up with a fairly boring travelogue punctuated by a few frightening moments and poor Lizzy wondering if she is in bad odor with Mr. Darcy. This could have been an extremely romantic, funny, sexy novel. It was not.

Mr. Darcy, boring Vampyre

I made the mistake of listening to this right after Pride and Prejudice. It's a good book but it simply doesn't compare.

Lovely for what it is

So glad i got this book, was a bit hesitant at first as i thought (Mr Darcy and Vampires?) It was a well told and exciting story. Most enjoyable

A wonderful story

The clever repartee and wit of Austen, as well as plot progression, suspense, character development, etc. do not appear in this cliched "story" where Elizabeth's reaction to attack is a letter to Jane, repeated descriptions of getting in and out of a gondola epitomize the descriptive prose, Mr. Darcy alternates between hungry and...hungry, and the book is in its final endless hours when Elizabeth suddenly realizes something it horribly, horribly wrong (time for another letter). Concept is great, execution drivel. The narrator was also agonizingly slow, especially the first half.

Not in the tradition of Jane

I've come to avoid books -- even books I have read and enjoyed -- narrated by particular readers I have heard and consistently failed to enjoy, though none of them were completely unlistenable.

This is completely unlistenable. The narrator's plodding monotone is so utterly disengaging that I could hardly believe those who produced the recording allowed it to continue. I could not get through fifteen minutes before I gave it up as a bad job.

Unfortunately, what I heard in those fifteen minutes hardly deserved better. The text reads like one of the worst varieties of fanfiction, wherein the author liberally recycles dialogue from Austen in an attempt to recall her characters while totally missing her characterizations. The pretentious spelling of "Vampyre" should have been a warning.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was fantatistic; this was not. It's possible this gets better as it goes along, but the beginning is too off-putting to continue.

Pretty Dreadful

Excellent listening! You Jane Austen fans will love it. A great audio book.

Hopeful of another interesting mash up, I was very disappointed with the narration. The story might have otherwise been okay, but this drawn out over dramatized self indulgent narration was so painful I had to give up.
A wasted credit.

Could not finish it

A vampire love story beatifully written and narrated. The beautiful description of historical locations adds to the enjoyment of this book. No gore, only the struggle of what seems to be an impossible bond of love between two people.

A travelog of Euope beatifully written

Im sorry to say that this bk is not a very good creapy scary or even suspenful. 75% of is just the new married couple doing there wedding tour. Liz only faintly sees hints here and there. No actual action or climax. and the ending is w out backround history of events that unfold. Its mostly that shes loonely. she trusts the wrong people and well it amounts to nothing. Im sorry to say but I believe it to be a rip off. Hearing about there life after the wedding it self would of maid a better book. Just the unrealism kills it. No actual vampire behavier is visible and Im sorry to kill it for everyone else but noo she does not become one(if you know what i mean).

With out Backround History or Realism

Don't waste your money on this. There is absolutely no action or real feel of romance. It makes no sense, and it's an insult to Jane Austen! If you like Vampire stories you'll be dissappointed as well. If your interested in a story with depth, forget it. It's all mush with no sincere or practical emotion. The character's are completely re-written in an annoying way. Darcy is a torn jerk, Elizabeth's a whiney girl with no backbone. It's repetitive. It's crap.

Crap. Absolute Crap.
