Halia Watkins has her hands full cooking, hosting, and keeping her boisterous young cousin, Wavonne, from getting too sassy with customers. This was a cute book. It was a good mystery. The characters and storyline were relatable. It was nice to hear characters that sound like my family, f friends, and people I know. I loooved the recipes and will definitely be trying my hand at the corn casserole.

I thoroughly enjoyed this first installment. I came across this author by accident and it was a good accident! Can't wait to start 2nd book. I sure hope the author decides to do more book series too.

loved this book and the history of Prince Georges County is so exact! the story has so many twists and turns and the excitement! so good an easy listen and or read :) my new favorite series on audible!

I enjoyed the rich detail of the food described throughout the story and the recipes given of select dishes. The characters are so well done that I can picture what they look like in my minds eye. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

This is a cosy mystery with an authentic beating heart, it includes lively characters, delicious soul food, recipes and funny developments. The background of Mahalia’s life and restaurant is established very well and it is easy to picture her Sweet Tea diner and the food she serves with a true commitment to quality. Enjoyable especially when Mahalia goes out to be detective with sidekicks like sassy Wavonne and her mother.
