Acerca de esta escucha

He was the inventor of Past-Tense TV (featuring Got Smart, Father Knew Best, and It Was Left to Beaver); the tireless crusader for such charities as the Center for Research into the Heebie Jeebies, Children of Parents with Bad Teeth, and the State Hospital for Those Who Felt All Right About a Year Ago; founder of the George Carlin Book Club (top titles: How to Act Laid-Back During a Grease Fire, Fill Your Life with Croutons, and The Meaning of Corn); and the only social commentator with the guts to point out that "the day after tomorrow is the third day of the rest of your life."

Yes, George Carlin is here with more of what he did better than any other comic: uproarious observations, laser-targeted crankiness, linguistic legerdemain, and inspired weirdness. ("If the shoe fits, get another just like it." "When you sneeze, all the numbers in your head go up by one.") Napalm & Silly Putty is just what his fans have been waiting for—another generous helping of notions, nonsense, assertions, assumptions, mockery, merriment, silliness, sarcasm, and, to be sure, plenty of disturbing references and toxic alienation. George wouldn't have it any other way.

Generally i like it, though its not my kind of humour. I know of some people who would really enjoy this book. Its honestly a personal preference things. If dumb and stupid(not saying the jokes are actually dumb and stupid, im just describing what kind of humour it is) You’ll really like this. 6/10 for me. Enjoy listening to something i typically would care for

Not really my taste but i’d definitely recommend

He’s been gone for 15 years, and times have radically changed - so much so that he probably wouldn’t be allowed to do standup anymore by the “cancel culture”. And yep. In this, he blasphemes, he takes delight in talking about death, and even throws out an “OJ got a raw deal” rant near the end. In between, he brings bits of his standup that still can put you on the floor in hysterics. But as always, he makes you think, squirm a little, and laugh a ton. That was his job, and he did almost better than any other comedian in history. This book is worth so much to that end, since in this world of cultural sterilization where no one wants to think before they fire shots across the proverbial bow anymore, this brings that pendulum back towards considering all views instead of just your own, and realizing that sometimes making fun of hot topics can be a better way to get people considering what needs to change.

If you love George’s musings, you’ll love this

I miss this man so much! I’ve heard most all this in his stand up but collected in book form is awesome. No laughing audience to distract or delay. Really wish he was still with us to see what he’d say about the world today. First thing would be, “I told you so!”. Looking back at all his routines it is amazing to see the vast majority of his predictions coming true. It makes you wonder or worry about what yet lies ahead for us.

A treasure!

It is a shame how PC culture and crybaby leftists have destroyed the field of comedy.
Guy’s like George would not survive today’s political judgment.

Funny

Worth listening to, and occasionally hilariously funny, this is however like a long rant rather than a story. Was hoping for more philosophical reflections on life and community. The word play is as always ingenious and the performance captivating.

Good, but not like the stand-up

It’s comedy. Thank you for being natural and funny. Would definitely recommend to people who are easily offended.

I never realized how irreverent and blasphemous George is. Some of the material is amusing but had to stop when he starts the anti Christian material - taken waaaaay tooooo far!
