Acerca de esta escucha

At 39, Nancy Kissel had it all: the royal lifestyle of the expatriate wife, three young children, and what a friend described as "the best marriage in the universe". That marriage - to investment banker Robert Kissel - ended one November night in 2003 in their luxury apartment high above Hong Kong's glittering Victoria Harbour, when Robert was murdered and Nancy became the prime suspect. Her 2005 trial captivated Hong Kong's expatriate community and attracted global attention. Less than a year after the jury returned its unexpected verdict, Rob's brother, Andrew, was also found dead - stabbed in the back at his multimillion-dollar Greenwich mansion.

Never Enough is the harrowing, true story of two brothers who grew up wanting to own the world but instead wound up murdered half a world apart - and of Nancy Kissel, a modern American woman for whom having it all might not have been enough.

This case is so bizarre, and is just peak "rich people are avaricious and nutso." Joe McGinniss is perpetually a wonderful writer, and this was narrated very well. Just a really nice, not overly-salacious true crime listen.

Joe McGinniss is a true crime rockstar

Well written by Joe McGinnis. Well read. Story is intriguing. Never a dull moment in this one!

Great true crime story

I saw the movie based on this book but never read the book. I'm glad I listened to the audiobook--it is excellent, both the content and the recording, absolutely worth the time! This author is an excellent writer! I should also add that, when done, try googling for recent actions on this case.

Great Book and Recording

Except for Ann Rule in her prime, no other true crime writer has ever held a candle to Joe McGinnis and that certainly holds true for this book. The story is insane and features a bipolar entitled bottle-blond whose lack of impulse control and immature emotions causes her to behave in an appallingly narcissistic fashion with consequences for everyone around her. As the story unfolds, it's really hard to believe she does the things she does and thinks she can get away with it all. The best part of this book is that instead of dwelling on the minutiae of court proceedings, which just about every other true crime writer today does, to the detriment of their books, Joe McGinnis actually took the time to interview many of the subjects-- giving him insight into events and the psychological state of the main characters at every step and that is what makes this book as good as it is. He also has a very low-key and dry sense of humor that shows up when he describes New York City and Hong Kong of the go-go 80s as well as the characters actions. I wish he would write even more books. This one is stellar.

Best true crime writer alive today

I love true stories and this one is great! It is well laid out and you are not sure of the outcome until the very end. I will say near the end I got a little annoyed how pathetic the lead character became. She was delusional!

Riveting

Standard, not particularly well-written (surprising, given the author), true crime book. Could not finish listening because the male performer's multiple attempts to mimic women's voices was so bad and grating.

Terrible performance

McGinnis does a great job of making the listener feel as if he or she is there. Supported by terrific detail, McGinnis lays out the entire progression of events leading to the murder as well as throughout the trial and beyond.

it's like you were there

This book was great as I learned many details I didn’t know about this murder. Both of these families were a mess. IMO Nancy may have HPD. She is very histrionic. Nothing would have ever made her happy. Robert seemed less crazy but growing up with the father he had, it’s no wonder he was a mess as well. Enjoyed this book.

What dysfunction!

Would you try another book from Joe McGinniss and/or Michael McConnohie?

This author, absolutely as I have read other books of his. This narrator, only for more upbeat topics.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

This is a true story so the ending was as expected. McGuinniss does a good job of tying up the loose ends, as much as the facts of the story will allow.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The pace, yes, the mood, no.

Did Never Enough inspire you to do anything?

Yes, I was inspired to look for photos of the people. In doing so, I stumbled on clips from of a video dramatization of the story.

Not McGinniss' best.

This story is so incredibly well written and well narrated that I couldn’t stop listening. My first Joe McGinniss book. Excellent true crime. Don’t want to give anything away, but it’s written so perfectly. You really get to know the marriage and the two main participants. They have very interesting lives, the sort of wealth and prestige people dream of, yet they get worse and more unhappy no matter how much good is all around them. Unfortunately I wish I knew where their marriage began to fail. But that may be too much info.

One of the best.
