Acerca de esta escucha

In the early months of 1970, Lt. Thomas Medici, NILO Ha Tien, enters Cambodia on US Naval Intelligence missions and negotiates a secret weapons agreement with the Cambodian Navy, then thwarts the destruction of of the Port of Sihanoukville - for which he is tried at a Naval Board of Inquiry.

"This remarkable novel relates many events that our Naval Intelligence Liaison Officers actually experienced during the Cambodia episode of the Vietnam War. The details of these events are fascinating." (VADM Rex Rectanus (Ret.), former director of Naval Intelligence and assistant chief of staff (intelligence) for VADM Elmo Zumwalt, commander Naval Forces, Vietnam, 1968-1970)

"HL Serra's novel draws the reader into the clandestine world of covert operations and Navy spy networks operating in Cambodia in early 1970. The book is a terrific read and one of those rare novels that speaks truth on every page about an innovative and effective strategic intelligence program." (Prof. Larry Berman, UC Davis, author of books on Vietnam, including Perfect Spy, No Peace, No Honor, and the first biography of Admiral Elmo Russell Zumwalt, Jr.)

I was turned onto this book by an interview the author has done on a podcast that focuses on special operations units of the Vietnam conflict, specifically SOG units. The author was the real life version of LT. Medici of the story, and wrote this story based on his own experiences while operating as NILO(Naval Intelligence Liaison Officer) in Cambodia. The story presented here is fantastic, and really offers a look into operations during the Vietnam war, while being presented in an entertainment medium. Lt. Medici is a compelling character, and has some incredible missions throughout the story. This is a ridiculously good read, I am so glad I stumbled upon it.

Incredible story, while fictional it is based entirely on truth

I’ve listened to/ read a LOT of books on Vietnam, with a good chunk of them being about SOG. It’s great to get ahold of something on the intel guys who really had the giant brass balls to risk everything for life saving information.

Great read on the unsung heroes

This is a MUCH better novel than the sample suggests. As a former USMC enlisted intelligence analyst married to a Cambodian Genocide survivor, I'm acutely aware of the competing narratives placing blame for the rise of Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge communists. This book avoids that debate directly, but details our presents in Cambodian and in Vietnam in conjunction with the clash of superpowers among corrupt native actors that IMHO would eventually sets the stage for Cambodia's demise. I know of no other book that does this so well!
