Acerca de esta escucha

Real-world, from-the-trenches toddler parenting advice from the author of the best-selling Oh Crap! Potty Training.

Toddlers - commonly defined as children aged between two and five years old - can be a horribly misunderstood bunch. What most parents view as bad behavior is in fact just curious behavior. Toddlerdom is the age of individuation, seeking control, and above all, learning how the world works. But this misunderstanding between parents and child can lead to power struggles, tantrums, and even diminished growth and creativity.

The recent push of early intellectualism coupled with a desire to “make childhood magical” has created a strange paradox - we have three-year-olds with math and Mandarin tutors who don’t know how to dress themselves and are sitting in their own poop. We are pushing the toddler mind beyond its limit but simultaneously keeping them far below their own natural capabilities.

In the frank, funny, and totally authentic Oh Crap! I Have a Toddler, social worker Jamie Glowacki helps parents work through what she considers the five essential components of raising toddlers:

  • Engaging the toddler mind
  • Working with the toddler body
  • Understanding and dealing with the toddler behavior
  • Creating a good toddler environment
  • You, the parent

Oh Crap! I Have a Toddler is about doing more with less - and bringing real childhood back from the brink of overscheduled, overstimulated helicopter parenting. With her signature down-and-dirty friend-to-friend advice, Jamie is here to help you experience the joy of parenting again and giving your child - and yourself - the freedom to let them grow at their own pace and become who they are.

I have read a few and found this to be the most reasonable and practical.

One of my favorite toddler books

Don’t wait until they turn two or three. Read this as soon as you can, and then revisit. And read other books too… there is no one and only golden source, but this should certainly be part of your new parent reading list.

WOW! This book hit my parenting sweet spot - conscious, funny, actionable, REAL! I loved the organization of the book into two parts - addressing the parent side first before the kid side, adjusting our own "stuff" where we really have the power to change. So validating to have a book acknowledge that parents and kids both need their needs met. Excellent author narration - finishing the book I felt like after having coffee with an awesome friend - inspired and empowered.

You got this!

I've read this and her Oh Crap potty training book. Both books have been great, easy reads, and very relatable. There is good insight in both as well as actual tools to help with your day to day. I've come away with things to try and new perspectives to contemplate. Great Read!

I have our so much of this information into daily practice with my 2 and 3 year olds, and I can already tell a huge difference. Not only has their behavior improved, but our relationship is growing and getting stronger every day!

I love to learn and I love to learn how to support my Twonager-toddler. There's a lot of value in this book, but it's not my favorite for 2 reasons. 1st, even though toddler years are generally considered roughly 1.5-4. This book repeatedly talks about how easy it was when they were 2 compared to 3 and seems to focus on examples of ages 3-5. I found this strange and frustrating as my 2yo started her tantrums at 18 months old. My child's behavior is manageable and I've learned great techniques particularly from other books. 2nd, what's with all the cussing? A parenting book I can't play in front of my toddler lest she repeat the gratuitous and unnecessary cussing! All that said, I gave it 4 stars because there was still enough value here. My favorite: sleep as a nutrient!

Value, Though not my favorite

Great concrete ideas that I tried out right away! And they worked! I also really like the narration, very easy to listen.
