Acerca de esta escucha

It’s not hard to understand why UT 12 is designated a scenic byway as well as an “All American Road,” and nor is it difficult to imagine this area being one of the last explored and navigated by European Americans. Even today, the winding road makes its way through mostly deserted mesa, if we are referring to human population, with seemingly million-mile views. But it is a place not just surrounded by but immersed in natural beauty. Off to the east are the often snow-capped peaks of the Henry Mountains while all around is a mixture of uplands, cliffs, canyons and rock formations that seem to span the colors of the rainbow. It would not be hyperbole to say that this road is the most beautiful in the United States. And, if you get a chance to drive it in the winter on a sunny day, you will be astounded by the colors. If you have the time to enjoy this byway slowly rather than simply getting from Bryce to I70 (which will take about 3 hours without stops), for example, you will be rewarded with time well spent. Hwy 12 is the only major road you’ll find across this central Utah terrain, but opportunities for quiet, contemplative exploration, back roads adventure, and ventures into history, geology and archaeology abound. You won’t find a Walmart, a McDonalds or a Starbucks (at least, not as of this writing), but you will find family owned shops and cafes, friendly people and plenty of room to roam. The area is a place of superlatives. I’ve already mentioned its astounding beauty, but the Aquarius Plateau, the mesa around which the road travels, is the highest forested plateau in North America, and the sandstone you see exposed all around you is the largest exposure of cross-bedded sandstone on earth. The road itself is an engineering marvel, clinging to the sides of cliffs as its switchbacks climb the plateau and snaking through blasted out canyon in other places. And Boulder, a small but mighty crossroads along 12, was still getting is mail by pack-mule in 1940. América del Norte
