Acerca de esta escucha

Captain Jim Agnihotri and his new bride, Diana Framji, return in Nev March's Peril at the Exposition, the follow up to March's award-winning, Edgar finalist debut, Murder in Old Bombay.

1893: Newlyweds Captain Jim Agnihotri and Diana Framji are settling into their new home in Boston, Massachusetts, having fled the strict social rules of British-ruled Bombay. It's a different life than what they left behind, but theirs is no ordinary marriage: Jim, now a detective at the Dupree Agency, is teaching Diana the art of deduction he’s learned from his idol, Sherlock Holmes.

Everyone is talking about the preparations for the World's Fair in Chicago: the grandeur, the speculation, the trickery. And Jim will experience it first-hand: he's being sent to Chicago to investigate the murder of a man named Thomas Pettigrew. As Jim probes the underbelly of Chicago’s docks, warehouses, and taverns, he discovers deep social unrest and some deadly ambitions.

When Jim goes missing, Diana must venture far from her comfort zone to find out what happened to her husband. Award-winning author Nev March mesmerized readers with her debut novel, Murder in Old Bombay. Now, in Peril at the Exposition, she wields her craft against the glittering landscape of the Gilded Age with spectacular results.

Narration, Story, Characters, Detail, Dialogue etc... I really enjoy these books. I don't review a book to run it down. I've read both books in this series and I am looking forward what comes next.

PERIL AT THE EXPOSITION:

I loved the story when she traveled to Chicago, but as the mystery and story went on, I got so bored and frustrated with the characters that I hit the wall. I have developed a formula that works for me. The minute I think, " I just can't take these stupid people anymore, and poof, I'm done." I went many hours into this but hit the Poof Button.

Characters were lame

This was the second book I have read by this author! I really enjoyed it and I am hopeful to read more wonderful books by this author!

Wonderful story

This was not as good as Murder in Bombay which I read in print.. Too many characters who kept changing sides so it was hard to decide who was a good guy. Interestingly, the May 19, 2024 New York Times Sunday Magazine had a feature about these same or similar anarchists planting bombs and doing other terroristic things. I don't really know if the danger to the Exposition is based on any historical facts. In any case, it was a good history lesson.

Anarchists!

Loved the dual narration. Vikas Adam is my absolute favorite narrator. The story was a bit weak at times when Diana seemed unable to see obvious issues such as when Jim was undercover and did not want her around distracting him and putting them both at risk. For an intelligent women she seemed oblivious to the risks her actions posed for Jim and herself. Otherwise an excellent listen. 5 stars. ⭐️ I love this series.

Superb performance by narrators

Horrible book. Drones on and on. It’s a simple plot stretched over 10 hours. First book was good. This one didn’t go so well

Boring story

she reads a grown woman as a breathless, not very smart and entirely unself aware teen. offensive

the female narrator ruins it
