this book was fantastic. i have been a massive phan for over 25 years. 99% of the time i can listen to a 30 second clip of a live jam or Mike's/tweezer/Slave etc and tell you the show and date. and this book revealed alot i did not know about the band and history. cool stories, back stories on albums, concerts, studio time and antics. it is a MUST read for any phan.

Great read and a must for any Phan

I’m like a relatively late comer to Phish. In my defense, I was a small child during all of the “golden age” of Phish. I started seeing them in 2009. Id been a fan for a few years before. I’ll never forget when Hampton was announced I lost my shit. Saw them at Merriweather that summer. I’ve seen since then a bunch, and just caught three nights at the Sphere with my two dear friends. Which was incredible. And I realized there was still so much I didn’t know. This book is great. My only thing is like… it wraps in 2009. Phish has been on tour for another 15 incredible years. More albums have dropped. Lots has happened. I’d love a new version.

Amazing if you like Phish

This was a great book. very informative. I'm not sure I wanted to know ALL the details, but couldn't not listen once started.

Great book unless you DON'T want all the details.

If you’ve listened to podcasts about Phish a lot of the stories will be familiar and the details are different.

A great book for fans

Absolutely loved the book. favorite part was to hear the true story of how Trey got busted. Especially from one addict to another I really like how he took hold of the situation and got help and built something out of it.

Spectacular!

There's a lot in this book fans of the band will likely already be familiar with, including stories about the forming of the band, some descriptions of the unorthodox rehearsal techniques the band invented, and the recording of their albums. But it goes into plenty of detail and not for nothing, it's been officially sanctioned and approved by the band themselves.

What makes it the most enjoyable is the feeling it gives you of being right there with the band as they grow from a quirky college band to a wildly adventurous arena rock band capable of drawing tens of thousands of fans to rural upstate Maine for multi-faceted art events. Phish has always fostered a unique, inclusive relationship with their fans. This book elaborates and expands on that phenomenon.

To sum it up: it's just a lot of fun to read/listen to.

My chief complaint is the narrator. I've heard him narrate other books before and he always does this weird whisper-speak thing, like he's Deep Throat explaining some elaborate government conspiracy to you under a bridge somewhere. It's incredibly aggravating (just speak like a normal person! ...or at least a normal narrator), and tonally incongruous with the light-hearted, fun nature of the band/text. So my recommendation is to listen carefully to the sample first. If you can get past it (as I did), then go for it and enjoy the book. I'm here to tell you it's possible. If you can't get past the lame narrator (which is understandable), buy the book and read it old-school style. It's worth it.

Bottom line: if you're a fan of the band, you'll dig this book.
