Brian Cox has been one of my favorite actors since first meeting him in The Ring. His summary of his experiences on stage and screen has helped further rekindle a love of storytelling in me. I hope I get a chance to see him on stage someday.

The memoir is wonderful and entertaining. The gifts Brian Cox gives to actors through his memoir is a map of how a career can be sustainable in such a competitive field. He gives foundational advice through his training and discussion of the classics. Must read for any actor.

….but if you’re expecting a lot about SUCCESSION, you may be somewhat disappointed. Remember that SUCCESSION forms only three years of a distinguished career of well over half a century.

As satisfying an experience as one could hope

Entertaining and beautifully performed. Listening to this book was like spending time with a charismatic and interesting person. Brian tells the story of his life in a non-linear fashion, which kept me engaged. He is balanced in being both generous and critical of people he has worked with. He offers some criticism of other actors I like, but that makes the book more entertaining. We’re all entitled to our opinions and points of view, and I very much enjoyed listening to his.

Brian not only reads his memoir but almost performs it. Period coming from the theater I imagine that’s a big part of it but I’m not sure there’s a better way to experience the score then having him read it
